The people who have skin in the game are the taxpayers whose “rent to the government” aka property taxes fund the operation.

Parents are largely gimmedats who want to spend, spend, spend. Nothing is too good or too costly for their kiddos.

A good school board has a balance of taxpayer watchdogs and parents.

I understand that, but, again, the school board members, if they’re worth a sh*t will be transparent and keep ALL the taxpayers informed on EVERYTHING.

Every taxpayer should be able to look up their county/city budgets on line, whenever they want and be given the ability to question spending. Is that happening? I’m not so sure.

The school boards are the ones that help find the Superintendents, most of whom seem to be radical Leftists, offer them ridiculous contracts and seem to give them complete control over all things educational.

A while back, folks someplace in Tennessee got mad about Islam being taught in the school. Most simply stated that if they’re going to teach Islam, then teach Christianity and Judaism as well. If they can’t do that, then nothing, under that whole “separation of church and state” stuff the Left loves to cry about. Well, the school board came back and said it wasn’t religion, it was social studies. What did that do? Pissed off the parents even more. One of the board members made a comment....if the parents don’t like it, they can move.

One thing about the parents is(and you’re right), seeing what my buddies on Long Island are dealing with right now, when their kids are in school they don’t seem to care. But, when all the kids are gone and their still paying $15,000 or more a year, they get angry.

In the North Shore school district on Long Island...my buddy is a contractor and knows costs and repairs....school took 10yrs to build a $474,000 house on school property. Was supposed to support a program that none of the kids participated in. Was recently converted to a classroom. And, before it becoming a classroom, it needed over $110,000 worth of mold remediation and removal(that shows you how little, if any, it was used).

A good school board has a balance of taxpayer watchdogs and parents........why can’t the parents be the watchdogs? Why can’t the taxpayers demand transparency and access to the spreadsheets? How hard is it for one or two of the parents to tell their friends that “they want this or that and this is what it costs”?
