Chaos in Manhattan: Mob run riot again in Washington Square Park and party promoter behind out-of-control raves tells fed-up residents to LEAVE if they don't like them

New York's iconic Washington Square Park has been hit by a fresh wave of crime that saw two people stabbed, an elderly cook attacked, and a man beaten and mugged.

The Manhattan park saw two men, one aged 24, stabbed in the early hours of Saturday during a 10-person brawl, according to the New York Post.

Around 50 people were dancing in the park - which is surrounded by upmarket homes - at 2:15am when an argument erupted, and spiraled into a stabbing.

It’s a shame. This area was so great in the fifties, and also the nearby Village. In the summer, strolling the neat clean streets, shopping at Klein’s on the Square. Lunching at fantastic restaurants.

On a summer evening , going to the music clubs, enjoying improv comedy or the pickup dixieland bands. Then later, slumming at places like Mona’s. A late night coffee at a quaint bistro.

You could meander through the streets, take in the ambience, then go home with your girlfriends on the Subway after midnight, unafraid.

You saw the Boys in Blue on foot patrol all over, chatting with the residents, keeping an eye out for the tourists, and sometimes flirting with a young Audrey Hepburn look-a-like.

NYC will never be like that again.

Thanks for the vivid post. I went to the area on vacation a few times. Too bad things devolve.
