How Austin Cut One Third of Its Spending on the Police Department
Texas Monthly ^ | November 2020 | Leif Reigstad

.... social justice advocates were surprised this summer when Austin became one of the only cities in the nation to successfully begin reallocating significant funding from its police department to other city programs. In August, the council voted unanimously to eliminate upcoming cadet classes in the troubled police academy, diverting $20 million to programs that address homelessness, mental health, and family violence prevention. Over the course of the year following the budget vote, another $80 million will be reallocated from the department by placing some functions, such as forensics and 911 dispatch, within other parts of the city’s government. The council also flagged another $50 million for “community led” review.

the liberal “news” writer at Texas Monthly says not a single cop was laid off in the effort to defund the police.

The morale, no doubt, took a major hit. And the supposed (not proven) lack of layoffs written about doesn’t mean the police department didn’t take hits. lack of new recruits/training mean less new blood, and cops putting in more hours and time...especially during all the “peaceful protests” by radical leftists.

Well, Austin is now the latest scene of another mass shooting in a...wait for it....liberal run city.

Just a few weeks ago Austin made national news by announcing that cops dedicated to providing drunk driving were not essential.

It’s very clear that the liberals have taken over Austin and they are now reaping what they have sown.

A year ago in August, the citizens of Austin and 12 other cities were warned about the growing potential of violence in their blue cities!

FORBES -At Least 13 Cities Are Defunding Their Police Departments:*

At least 13 U.S. cities have cut funding from police department budgets or decreased officer numbers with several more in the process. As of last August: 2020/08/13/

Austin, Texas, was the latest city to announce a police defunding effort, with the City Council on Thursday voting unanimously to cut $150 million (roughly one third) from the police budget

Austin’s announcement closely follows the sweeping budget change approved by Seattle—a $3.5 million budget cut . The country’s two largest cities, New York and Los Angeles, approved budget cuts weeks after protests began—New York slashed $1 billion from its $5.6 billion operating budget while Los Angeles approved a $150 million budget cut from its budget. Also in California, San Francisco approved a $120 million cut to the police and sheriff’s department.*

Austin will become even more dangerous when their left wing schools restart this fall:

Austin ISD, Austin Independent School District, to scale back discipline on students to eliminate racial disparities!

Beginning in the fall, the Austin Independent School District will be significantly scaling back the way it disciplines children who act up.

The goal is to reduce racial disparities, which show Black and brown students are being disproportionately punished compared to their white classmates.

According to data compiled by the district, Black children at AISD were nearly five times more likely than their white peers to receive disciplinary action, include suspensions, being placed at a disciplinary campus or being expelled.

Well, Austin is now the latest scene of another mass shooting in a...wait for it....liberal run ruined city waiting for Federal Government storm troopers instead of city cops. Next will be the laid off school teachers due to Covid. They will be replaced by drones in the DC area and everything will be on the internet. No wages for Cops and Teachers and no more retirement/health care costs.

Here’s the latest on the Austin PD. They have eliminated the motorcycle squad so thugs won’t have to worry about getting caught if they go off the main streets. They have cut detectives and put them on patrol so do your killing in Austin now while you can. They are going to eliminate the next academy class. All this while a huge number of cops have turned in their resignations. Just Keepin’ Austin Weird.
