It really isn't a new idea. It has been circulating around since at least last February when Annie Lowrey of Atlantic magazine urged Democrats to bribe Joe Manchin to support eliminating the filibuster by the earmarks pork bribe in order to "Give Joe Manchin Whatever He Wants." However, the urgency among Democrats and their media allies has gone into hyperdrive since Manchin again reiterated his strong support for maintaining the filibuster in a recent Op-Ed he wrote.
As a result some have dropped any hint of subtlety and are now flat out screeching for the bribery route in order to convince Manchin to change his mind on the filibuster. Among them the Daily Beast columnist Wahajat Ali who went into full bribe mode in his Sunday tweet.

The current filibuster rules and party split are a golden goose for Manchin. He can extort personal or legislative rewards for his critical vote over and over. Convincing him to throw away his leverage would require a bribe that exceeds of the aggregate of the bribes he could get in the future.
Manchin was not in the Senate at that time.
It’s not a matter of just bribing Manchin. They would ALSO need to bribe Sinema who is actually even MORE firm on upholding the filibuster.
You criminal Democrats don’t even try and hide it any more...just amazing!
Unless the 'rat leadership doesn't really want to end the filibuster and Manchin and Sinema are designated as the stumbling blocks.

Scratch the surface of any Democrat, and you see a corrupt, immoral criminal underneath.
Manchin says he won’t vote for anything that isn’t bipartisan yet he isn’t on any of the discussions between the parties. So tell Manchin he has two weeks to work out a bipartisan solution and let him go to it.

Imagine, if you will, the decibel level of the outraged screeching from the Party of Satan and their media comrades if there was a 50-50 senate, a Republican VP tie breaker and in order to advance their agenda the Republicans announced their plan to eliminate the filibuster.
I think that McConnell should offer Manchin any position he wants in the Senate if he will switch parties.
If the Democrats can bribe, so can the Republicans.

Lowrey makes the case that Democrats should, essentially, bribe Manchin in order to make him more supportive of legislation being pushed by the party.
