Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet applauded President Joe Biden's proposal to spend nearly $200 billion to prop up the electric vehicle market as part of his $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan.
"I view this as our best opportunity in decades to make the long-term investments we have put off for years," Bennet said on a conference call hosted by Climate Power on Wednesday. "The American Jobs Plan puts out $40 billion in our natural infrastructure to restore our forests, protect our watersheds — some of that is based on my Outdoor Restoration Partnership Act that I wrote as a result of the fires we've seen.
"Hundreds of billions of dollars in the proposal to expand clean energy infrastructure and the importance of including clean energy standards would dramatically reduce carbon emissions from electricity. And nearly $200 billion in investments for the deployment of electric vehicles, I could go on."
Currently, the federal tax rebate for consumers who purchase fully electric cars is $7,500. The rebate could increase to $10,000 under the Biden proposal, which hasn't been formally drafted into legislation yet.
"It will give consumers point of sale rebates and tax incentives to buy American-made EVs, while ensuring that these vehicles are affordable for all families and manufactured by workers with good jobs," reads the White House fact sheet about Biden's plan. "It will establish grant and incentive programs for state and local governments and the private sector to build a national network of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030, while promoting strong labor, training, and installation standards."
New Mexico Democratic Sen. Martin Heinrich said Biden's plan is needed to help bring electric vehicle chargers to "every corner" of the U.S.
"This is our chance to build charging infrastructure in every corner of our nation for the rapidly growing fleet of electric vehicles," Heinrich said, "and it's our best opportunity to stand up for a 21st century Civilian Climate Corps that empowers a whole new generation of Americans to restore our landscapes and open up new opportunities on our public lands including to sequester more carbon."
Companies like General Motors and Volkswagen have abandoned manufacturing vehicles with hybrid engines to focus on fully electric plug-in vehicles instead.
In 2020, 296,000 EVs were sold in the U.S. compared to 331,000 the year prior.
Toyota Motors President Akio Toyoda has warned that car manufacturers moving to fully electric vehicles could make automobiles unaffordable for the average person. A January 2021 survey shows that some consumers do not see electric cars as a viable option due to the mile range of batteries as well as long recharging times compared to filling internal combustion engines with gasoline or diesel fuel.
Despite this, Senate Democrats are supporting Biden's proposed $200 billion plan that includes replacing diesel vehicles with fully electric vehicles for the federal government, public schools and the U.S. Postal Service.
His proposal would "replace 50,000 diesel transit vehicles and electrify at least 20 percent of our yellow school bus fleet through a new Clean Buses for Kids Program at the Environmental Protection Agency, with support from the Department of Energy."
Agree if it can’t it’s not a car it’s a toy.
I was the only House in my area that had power for four days during the snow storm. Why? Because my 15,000 watt tracking axis solar system worked every day even under clouds they still put out over 1200 watts. All my neighbors came over when they saw my lights still on. We had BBQ and cold beers while they marveled at my systems set up. My heat pumps has the house at 85 during the day everyone’s in shorts and Ts the covered pool was also at 80. Four of my neighbors now have panels up they won’t be dark again ever. At night since the house has thermal mass built in the walls and floors it never got below 70 inside before the sun came up again. The 8” of snow cannot stick to panels covered in hydrophobic coatings it just slide right off of them as they tracked the sun at a 35 degree angle. For $12000 I can put up a 15kw per hour system that in sunny Texas will run your meter backwards so much every month the power company pays you. For a 3500 sqft or smaller home 15,000 watt system will generate a negative power bill 12 of 12 month’s and pay it self off in 5 years or less if you contract as a peak power provider to the local grid the minimum size of that system is 15,000 watts. Home values in this location are 650,000 to 2 million a $12000 investment on a mortgage loan is nothing. The panels have a 25 year capacity warranty and a hail rating plus home owners insurance coverage as do the inverters. Bulk panels are 15 cents per watt and inverters are 20 a competent Electrician can run the transfer breakers for under a grand and four guys can out the panels up in 8 hours labor which even at $15 hr is a small fraction of the value of the system.
People who live in cities do not realize how far apart things are in rural areas......................
If only it were Just 50.
In regards to the idea that we can ban ICE vehicles by 2035.
In the US we drive 3.2 trillion miles a year.
Electric cars use ~.03 kwh/mile.
That’s 96 BILLION MW
We would need to build 6.9 BILLION MW a year, 571 MILLION MW per Month, 132 MILLION MW per day, starting TODAY, JUST for the extra electricity to charge the cars.
It’s pure insanity to think that can be done.
But they don’t really think it can. It’s about removing your ability to travel freely whenever you wish.
It’s all about power and control over the people.
But existing stock will have lower gas prices due to reduced demand.
🙄
Let me get this straight.
So your claiming you ran a heat pump system on 1.2 kw? And had enough extra capacity to charge batteries to have lights on in the evening?
Prices will go higher because environmental laws will shut down production...................
Indeed nor do they know how many miles some sales people have to travel some state to state.
The cul de sac we live on got new PGE lines about 6/7 years ago and every home got updated with new power lines to our new smart boxes to prepare for all the new vehicles.
We have 5 Piuses on our street which is the equivalent to 2 city blocks with 18 homes total.
Also, there are 2 Teslas and a couple of Euro small vehicles posing as cars.
At least 8 homes have an office that is used daily, including ours.
One of the new home owners was going get a new Tesla and apparently PG&E/??? told him that might cause a problem.
In the summertime, when we go into high electricity demand and higher rates from 1 PM to 9 PM. If all of the Teslas, Piuses, other combo vehicles and offices went on using electricity and charging at the same time, that could/might be a problem.
Besides more use in summer with AC, we have at least 9 college kids home in our area for the holidays and summers using every electronic system they have from noon to ???? Our Comcast Business wifi slows down from about noon/1pm until 9 pm with everyone on line.
“Energy can be neither created nor destroyed but only converted from one form to another”
These political hacks and morons think they can just defy the 1st law of Thermodynamics and save the planet??? LMFAO!!!
It’s just another classic example of the insanity brought on by the mental disease known as liberalism....and an expensive one at that!!
I know, I was being sarcastic. Hence the rolled eyes.
YOU get a free Car, and YOU get a free Car, and so on and so on...
A Chicken in every Pot and a EV in every Garage.
How do I get on the list?
$287 Billion is Chickenfeed when you are talking about a $2.2 TRILLION DOLLAR Spending Bill on top of the other multi TRILLION DOLLAR Kung Flu Spending Bills.
Then we have the $6.3 TRILLION DOLLAR Xiden Budget Proposal on top of that.
I assume it will be a Hate Crime to utter the phrase “Deficit Spending” ever again.
Mostly the “Elite” own these crap cars - so this amounts to Federal government subsiding the relatively wealthy at the expense of everyone else.
They know the average voter out there has not gone to college and those that did didn’t take any science classes above introductory ones.
Free Energy is the bait.
Free Energy TOMORROW is the switch.................
The average American can’t afford $60,000+ for a damn vehicle the damn car payments are more than the mortgage!!!
“damn car payments are more than the mortgage!!!”
YUP!
At “zero” interest, the 5 year, $60,000, would cost
$1,000 per month. That’s why the loan terms have been increased to 80 or 90 months!
But, in 8 years, you are paying the bill with less valued money. What a deal?
Bingo. Our un elected rulers do not intend for us, the common folks to have a new vehicle. So price them out of the market. Then only the old and new elites will have
I’m 82 and my wife is 81. Our siblings and cousins our age, still own gas powered vehicles, and all of us still drive.
Our parents on both sides drove well past age 80 if they lived that long, and they told us to never give up our vehicles.
They knew that selling your car and depending on relatives, friends and local transportation could really isolate you. They called that, “Insane rationing without a war.!”
so this amounts to Federal government subsiding the relatively wealthy at the expense of everyone else.

And that’s exactly what I wrote ... odd.
Amazing how that works. Someone posts a great line or two, and I repost it, to give it, hopefully, more life.
