Radio Free America – Rush’s Legacy

During the dark days of the Cold War, eastern Europeans were isolated from the rest of the world behind what was warmly referred to as the Iron Curtain. Everything behind the Iron Curtain was autocratically ruled by the Soviet Union. As part of its effort to control the populace, all regional news outlets (print and broadcast) were in fact, state-sponsored propaganda outlets.

The only exception to the blackout of truthful news was a powerful network of transmitters in western Europe, known as Radio Free Europe. This network of transmitters broadcast news and entertainment deep into eastern Europe. In addition to broadcasting the truth to those under communist rule, it also provided hope and a vision of what was outside of communist rule. It was instrumental in preparing those behind the Iron Curtain for the eventual downfall of the Soviet Union.

Unfortunately, while we were fighting propaganda overseas, citizens back home were subjected to a uniquely American version of propaganda. For decades -- before the internet and satellite TV -- news in America was controlled by a select few entities, all of which were closely aligned with the Democrat party. ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN controlled television and radio news. The New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, and Los Angeles Times set the tone for printed news.

IIRC, President Trump fired most of the crews at Radio Free Europe because they spouted Leftist nonsense just like the WaPo, NYT and the alphabet networks. RFE was thin gruel for the oppressed in Eastern Europe.

I can’t help feeling that they got to Rush somehow and gave him cancer. It fits in with the coup against the president. I’ll take the aluminum foil of my head now.

I remember a report from the ‘80s that the Castro regime spent more time trying to block Miami Spanish language grocery store ads than Radio Marti... the RFU version for Cuba.

No. I say this not as a Rush detractor, but because as much as I loved listening to him for 32 years he was a philosophical Conservative living a liberal lifestyle.

Rush abused his body for a lifetime. Smoker, yoyo dieter, addicted to pills, his body was ripe to give out.

I do believe he was a believer and is now in Heaven. Lots of us have demons that we can't get rid of until we are finally separated from our earthly bodies.

No need to feel lonely in that thought. IF d’rats
can make good on a plan involving Justice Antonin Scalia,
then why NOT Rush Limbaugh?

Talk radio could be squashed by the FCC reimposing the “Fairness Doctrine” that until the late 1980s made conservative talk radio impossible. We are already seeing censorship in online talk platforms and regulatory changes could muzzle cable news. I have long worried that a day may come when conservatives might be listening to uncensored talk radio broadcast by shortwave beyond the Progressive Curtain. I have kept an old shortwave radio just in case.

Now we could use some version of conservative radio from the outside; maybe call it “Radio Free USA” to counteract much of the crap that we have to hear.

It’s a shame Premiere is going to stop broadcasting the “Rush Legacy Show” in a week.
