From what I understand from a member of the aristocracy over there, the two reactions from Queen Elizabeth were "horror" and "cold fury."

BTW, they purposely did it to hurt her, not to pander to her. And they immediately licensed the use of the name in order to sell merchandise. So, not only did they engineer something that would upset her continuously having to hear the name repeatedly, they get to profit off of her personal, private, intimate pet name.

She apparently thought being Royalty meant a life of total wealth and privilege with just glitz, glamour, and fame...without having to do any work. Then when she realized she does indeed get a life of wealth, prestige, and privilege - but she was also required and expected to also work - and work a lot - she was devastated and wanted out.
