Next step? Give Guantanamo back to Cuba?

Then Cuba can lease the base to Russia/China/Venezuela

Why close Gitmo? Biden can just use it to house the “terrorists” from the Jan 6th “coup”.

Actually, that's the best argument for making the case to close Gitmo. One of us might end up at Gitmo if we posted a hate message on either facebook or twitter.

Biden has to have some place to stick those Americans from 1-6-2021.

>>Many of the prisoners were held for years without being charged with a crime and then released. The longest for 18 years.

Anything to say about the prisoners who were released and went back to their terrorist game, some even dying carrying out attacks?

The prison is temporary, the mission is permanent.

We better hope Cuba remains Communist forever. Otherwise, we would be obligated to return GTMO when Cuba becomes a functioning country that represents their people.

So, they are going to release the terrorists being held there and our borders don’t exist.

What could go wrong?

“He wants to close it because he is afraid Trump will send him there whenever Trump gets back in”

It’s more related to this I imagine.

Take the last 40 and drop them in the ocean halfway to Africa.

The problem is once they ship them to the US, the courts will get involved because the prisoners will now have standing to sue for release. They have not been convicted and most have not had trials. Suddenly a whole new set of constitutional rights.

“ This policy definitely did not help to maintain America’s image as the “good guy”

I fail to see the problem.

Not really, the lease was written with the last two governments as in perpetuity, and this government is legally unrecognized.

A new government which was correctly voted in, would probably want the same kind of lease, although the price would be dramatically raised.

Although Puerto Rico got rid of a long term lease like that, they thought they would still be receiving the money for the lease. A new Cuban government would not be under the same misapprehension.

I suppose next Biden will return the land to Cuba as a good faith gesture. Maybe they can administer it as a prison for dissident US citizens.

Those patriots would welcome the deluxe accommodations on a tropical paradise.

Custom meals, too.
