Roselle Park officials have given a court date to a homeowner who has profanity-laced anti-President Joe Biden flags outside her residence.
The Willow Avenue property owner was issued a summons Monday over three of six flags that her daughter, Andrea Dick, has on display outside the Willow Avenue property, including one that says “F--- Biden” and another that shows former President Donald Trump raising middle fingers.
The summons charges Dick’s mother with “having signs hanging on fence containing obscenity” and cites an ordinance that prohibits signs featuring “obscene, pornographic or lewd messages.” She is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Dick, who has retained an attorney, said again on Monday she has no plans to take down the flags and contends they are protected by her right to free speech under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
“I’m not taking them down,” Dick said. She told NJ Advance Media she plans to sue the borough once the situation is resolved.
She said the Thursday court date will likely be postponed. The maximum fine for breaking the ordinance is $500 per violation for every day that the violations continue to exist.
Dick’s attorney, Michael Campagna, did not immediately return a request for comment.
Dick has said the borough’s ordinance “pertains to nudity” and she does not believe the signs are obscene. The borough’s ordinance defines “obscene” as any material that “lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value,” appeals to prurient interests or depicts sexual conduct in an offensive way...

Lots of people already have subscriptions. Also, there are very widely circulated methods for getting around the paywalls, but it would not be clever to post those methods here.
