Conservative media outlet Newsmax, a favorite of former President Donald Trump's, rejected embattled Republican U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz's request for a job, a spokesperson for the website said on Monday.
Gaetz contacted Newsmax early this year, a source at the outlet said. That was around the time that news broke Gaetz was the subject of a federal investigation into possible sex trafficking of a minor.
Investigators are seeking to determine whether Gaetz had sex with a 17-year-old, according to news reports and a law enforcement source who spoke with Reuters. He has not been charged with any crimes and has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
Spokespeople for Gaetz, a vocal Trump supporter, had no immediate comment about any Newsmax job rejection.
"Newsmax has had no plans to hire Rep. Gaetz," said Brian Peterson, a spokesperson for the website.
A source familiar with Newsmax's policies said: "Earlier this year, (Gaetz) reached out and said he might leave Congress early and was interested in TV work."

Yes, Reuters, we believe everything you say and report.
If it’s true he’s an accident waiting to happen. Otherwise the left is trying to nip him in the bud. They can’t do it with Greene. Women don’t screw around as much.
It looks to me like the article says that the spokesperson for the Newsmax website said “we have no plans to hire him,” and a person familiar with Newsmax’s policies said that Gaetz was looking for tv work.
The first sentence is misleading, it says a spokesperson for Newsmax said they rejected his request.
He could have sent out a boiler plate letter to multiple news companies before the bad press. Why not test the waters?
Who knows? But the story is purposefully deceptive. They can make up their crap, get the quote from their source “familiar with Newsmax policies,” then you shoot an email to Newsmax asking, “Are you going to hire him?,” and you get back the Newsmax quote in the article.
If he did have sex with a 17-year-old, and if she was of age of consent in the jurisdiction, then while poor judgement on his part, he may not have done anything “illegal”, and not warranting some months-long investigation designed only to taint his future electability.
Reuters, all you need to know.
I wouldn’t watch them even if they did hire him. Newsmax if Fox lite. What they did to Lindell was disgusting.
Newsmax sucks. One of the first media outlets to refer to Biden as President-ELECT after the election. Stopped watching then.
Amen. I tried watching Newsmax and bagged it when they had guys like Mike Reagan on, bad mouthing President Trump. Even FNC, back when I used to watch it, wasn’t THAT blatant in their disrespect.
Am I the only one here who thought he was just a little bit creepy even before all this? Not creepy in a sexually predatory Joe Biden kind of way, just kind of weird and an intellectual light weight.
Yea, they called the election before CNN,FOX,CBS,NBC,ABC,Etc, sure, that happened./s
Yes, you’re the only one....you win a pretty pony.
Some months ago anonymous accusations about Gaetz flew into the air. Do they have proof and known witnesses now?
The first thing the deep-staters try to slime an opponent is to make vile sexual allegations of events distant in time based on anonymous sources. And, our side just grows faint and sucks it up.
I have never liked the guy. That said, I do not believe the stories about him. They are trying to destroy him for being a supporter of Trump and a non-Rino.
No, you are not the only one.
They very well may now that his wing man has copped a deal.
Yeah take that argument to court and see where it gets you.
What are his damages? It is becoming all too routine to simply sue someone until they cry UNCLE, for being bankrupt!
Matt should have been on that plane to the sweet island.
