Country Music Television – along with other networks – urged many to "wear orange" over the weekend as part of a coordinated stance against gun violence.
"We're (virtually) wearing orange today in support National Gun Violence Awareness Day and to call attention to the more than 100 lives that are lost every day to gun violence," the ViacomCBS-owned entity tweeted Friday ahead of the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday.
The campaign, citing fatal injury reports data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the years 2015 through 2019, claimed that "Every day more than 100 Americans are killed with guns." "Wear Orange" is part of Everytown for Gun Safety's gun control campaign, which is backed by Michael Bloomberg. The effort was met with intense criticism from many on social media.

Me, too! Orange on St. Patrick’s Day for sure.
I was thinking that, as well. Nascar could actually GAIN fans but putting out a statement to indicate this “wear orange” crap is ridiculous.
You will wear regimental colours on the Birthday of the regiment!
Patrick’s day *spit*
PPCLI’s birthday!
CMT now stands for Communist Marxist Television.
There never did ....not since Viacom bought them and that’s been over twenty years...1999
You know my story where I witnessed a meeting of the minds downtown Nashville when New York took over
I looked at Annette and we were watching the table at Broadway Brewhouse ....lower Broad....now the Nashville equivalent of bourbon street sans strippers..
It was a table full of maybe 25 under 35 folks who looked like hipsters meet ANTIFA or Occupy folks.....
Only one face I knew at the table ....Chet Flippo....was what we’d here would call reasonable and I knew was an authority on country and liked it
I told Annette this must be Viacom first insertion team.....whew...looks like the worm has turned
Boy you could tell immediately...the programming and the immediate tone of disdain for their audience...
Viacom has by and large made a habit of buying audiences and destroying the programming the audience was there for
It’s just junk tv now....Viacom has succeeded by getting CMT on more cable menus rather than improving content
Mostly run out of New York....I actually enjoyed videos ....rock and country...more than silly syndicated shows
gonna go over real well with Vols fans.....
Yours is a scary proposition, noting the failure of government attempts to domesticate T-Rex.
Great post!!
Orange is the colour for the University of Tennessee. Ironic that CMT not only wishes to offend the majority of country fans, it chooses to coop the colours of the largest university in Tennessee. Somehow I think that the CMT managers are out of touch with its market and the state to which it is located.
It is kind of.....
That has never changed from the inception of rock and roll and it’s variants
If you desire a commercial hit at least initially you want girls ages 9-15 to have to have it
They used to go to capital records or Sears etc to buy it in vinyl 45
Now they download it
Their folks pay for it
The more hysterical they are for it the better...
Also University of Texas fans.
You let the cat out of the bag.
And in my case, I guess I’ll just have to wear blue.
Yes, you’re right, but I was thinking about the wildling guns as well. We can teach the domesticated ones to shoot the wildling ones, and get them to fight our war for us, all the while lying face to the ground with our ears covered. In a few generations, however fast guns breed I don’t know, they will have wiped each other out and we can go back to shooting harmless rubber bands. Solution? I think so.
They don’t have to tune in if they pay carriage fees.
Wanna really send a message?
Cut. The. Cord.
I think its a great idea! Orange is easy to shoot at! It would be even better it it was sponsored by Target stores!
Way to offend your audience.
Country folks and gun control. Words do not go together.
