Children on trendy vegan diets are 1.2 inches SHORTER on average, with smaller and weaker bones, study warns
Daily Mail ^ | 6-3-21 | Elenor Hayword

Posted on 06/07/2021 6:31:37 AM PDT by Brookhaven

• The study involved 187 healthy five to ten-year-olds, including 52 vegans

•Vegan children averaged 1.2in shorter and had 4-6% lower bone mineral content

•They were also 3 times more likely to be deficient in vitamin B-12 than omnivores

ARE VEGAN DIETS SAFE FOR BABIES?

Around 3.5million people living in the UK are vegan – the equivalent of around seven per cent of the population, according to estimates.

And, as the diet has surged in popularity, more mothers are choosing to make their baby a vegan.

The NHS says babies and young children on a vegetarian or vegan diet can get the energy and most of the nutrients they need to grow and develop.

However, the plant-based diet is known to be low in key nutrients for babies, such as vitamin B12 - found milk and eggs, iron, calcium and zinc.

A vitamin B12 deficiency is a rare and treatable cause of failure to thrive and delayed development in infants, researchers wrote in the journal Pediatrics.

It can also lead to malnutrition and ‘irreversible damage’ to their nervous systems, experts at University College London once concluded.

An iron deficiency can hinder a child from gaining weight, affect their appetite and energy and can lead to anaemia, which can be life-threatening in severe cases.

Consuming too little protein can lead to stunted growth, nutritionists have warned over the years. But beans, lentils and chickpeas are high in the nutrient.

And eating too much fibre can cause children to feel full quicker and stop them from getting enough food, paediatric dietitian Lucy Upton told the Mail in March.

Two senior lecturers in nutrition at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Shirley Hinde and Ruth Fairchild, said the diet was ‘less than ideal’ for babies.

This explains some of the weak soy boy dorks entering adult society. Literally smaller and meek based on the food eaten growing up.

It might also lead to children becoming annoying little twits who lecture the world about “climate change.”

I have no patience for "vegans". I'm getting tired of seeing their fake meat and cheese crap at grocery stores and Costco. If any guest for dinner at my house is a vegan, they'd better bring their own food fake crap to eat or they'll be hungry.

Vegans don’t care if their kids suffer so they can feel better about THEIR life choices.

Period.

A small child or infant can’t possibly eat enough to wring sufficient nutrition from an all-vegetable diet.

Vindicated. Entering honorable mention as reference with a corresponding, deliberately smug statement in my book.

The kids may no realize it but their parents are awarding them Darwin awards. Had a great uncle who grew up in poverty eating mostly macaroni, some beans and a few vegetables. He entered the Civilian Conservation Corp at age 14 at 5 foot two inches. He was fed a diet that regularly featured pork and lamb chops. Grew to 5 foot eight inches by age 17 when he joined the US army. Was a Sergeant at Schofield barracks in 1941. Missed Pearl Harbor because he and other sergeants were sent to New Mexico to be a training drill instructor.

This is quite true. Some anecdotal evidence from long ago:

When I was in elementary school back in the early 60s, there was a family in our carpool that was vegan. They had two kids, a boy and a girl. They were the sickliest, weediest, most pitiful looking kids you ever saw. If any bug was going around school, they caught it and had it the worst. Even other kids noticed.

My dad was a lawyer, and another parent in the carpool was a pediatrician (he was our pediatrician, and his wife was a lawyer). It was above my pay grade at the time, but as I heard afterwards they staged an intervention before that was a "thing". It worked (my dad and dear Dr. B were *VERY* persuasive guys).

It also didn't hurt that at that time vegans were considered very fringe (I'm reminded of that line in C.S. Lewis' "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" about Eustace's parents who "were vegetarians and non-smokers and wore a special kind of underclothes.")

Vegan is not natural. Low protein. Low Fat. Our bodies in a grand mixture of things, in moderation.

Ironically, in an emergency, many like us would rather make other choices (prolly some vegans, too; this was Texas during one of the recent hurricanes):

Aren’t processed foods bad for you? And aren’t the Vegan Buggers processed food as well as other non-meat products replacing meats?

the ultimate in virtue signaling is destroying your own child’s health to show off to other virtue signaling parents how very very virtuous they are.

Apparently the concept that young mammals need milk will have to be rediscovered thru painful trial and gross error.

Many Vegans in France have because radical, using Antifa tactics to harrass and in some cases, shut down Butcher Shops. Restaurants are getting hassled too. As if muslims weren’t doing enough to errode their standard of living.

I have no patience for “vegans”. I’m getting tired of seeing their fake meat and cheese crap at grocery stores and Costco.

There is something very contradictory about vegans who want fake products to taste like meat, or bacon, or cheese. It’s a bit like someone who professes to not being a cannibal, but wants substitute products that taste and look like human flesh. At no time have I ever wished by steak tasted like broccoli.
