While there, I found a Cuba you may not know. A Cuba with a 99.8 percent literacy rate, the lowest HIV infection rate in the Western Hemisphere, free college and health care…When Castro took power, fewer than one-quarter of Cubans were literate. Many couldn't afford school. One of Castro's first acts was to universalize education…. Cuba's universal health care system is seen by many as a world model.” -- Nikole Hannah-Jones.This old shibboleth again. Why pray tell do those stubborn ignorant Cubans continue to risk their lives trying to escape paradise?!

A lot of the young back to nature types go to Cuba to see how they produce food. Cubans had no access to man made fertilizers or pesticides so they had to figure out how to do without or starve.

“A Cuba with a 99.8 percent literacy rate...”
Well, I guess it could depend on what ‘literacy’ means. If it means reading and understanding not much beyond recognizing your own name, maybe they’ve gotten to 99.8% literacy. Otherwise, have the Communists somehow eliminated mental retardation, dyslexia, poor eyesight that get in the way of being able to meaningfully read? This is typical Communist BS.
On the other hand, maybe she can see to the importation of those wonderful Cuban teachers and maybe lift up the Baltimore H.S. system’s students up to say 50% literacy.
