I've never been a fan of free college/university. However, I am a big fan of free community college - understanding that it will turn into grades 13 and 14 in many ways. But, the other advantage of free CC is that older adults can also go back to learn a specific skill often gaining them an edge in a vocational job.
That being said, the devil is in the details, and everyone wants to treat the government as an never ending piggy bank.

Lets be bold and admit that a quarter of the kids in the tenth grade have the aptitude and knowledge to pass a high school equivalency test...so why not allow them to test out at the end of the tenth grade, and offer them two years of community college (provided they can maintain a c-plus overage average at community college)?

One problem we have is that so many college degrees are in areas that don't enhance one's ability to get a good job, degrees like: Fill-in-the-blank Studies.
