Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin on Sunday defended his decision to vote against a sweeping voting rights bill and reiterated his opposition to gutting the filibuster, declaring in the strongest terms yet that he is not willing to change Senate rules to help his party push through much of President Joe Biden's agenda. "I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act. Furthermore, I will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster," Manchin, a moderate Democrat from West Virginia, wrote in an op-ed published in the Charleston Gazette.

Manchin and Sinema should dump the Rat party and switch. Payback for the stolen senate seats in GA. and probably MI. too.

I’ve always considered Manchin to be just as much an opportunist as most Senators, and considered most of his pronouncements regarding the filibuster to be posturing aimed at securing better deals for himself with the administration. I have to admit, though, that at this point I do believe that he’s pretty much dug into the position of maintaining the filibuster and being perfectly happy to let the worst of the worst among the administration’s proposals die on the vine. I’m not expecting him to reverse course at this point. Which is a rare bit of good news.

Right. I’m just waiting for the right amount of money to come across his desk and he’ll flip on a dime! Trust no rat he has done this before only to vote with pack of Companion demons. I wouldn’t bet $100 on that evil backstabbing ass...He is after a special deal of some sort of $$$goody for his state. For him to go this far at this extend means he wants something really really bad. And he’s making the rats and Biden sweat it out for a few more days until he gets his way. This is the way in The pit of hell of DC.

Where was Manchin and his ‘bipartisanship’ when he was in lock-step with his fellow Democrats voting against Trump’s appointees and legislation?

Even after slow joe tried to bribe Manchin with a $165,000/year job for his wife, he remains true to his pledge.

I am now beginning to believe that Manchin is one of the last demonRAT patriots.

I sure hope he doesn't sell us out in the 11th hour.

Do that and they get primaried out of office in the next election by a conservative Republican. This way Mancin has no opposition in the primary and looks good to the voters back home.

Keep in mind that the filibuster has a very useful purpose for the MAJORITY party in the Senate. It lets them avoid passing bills that their voters want but their donors adamantly oppose.
