Recreational weed and Arizona DUI law: What you need to know - Arizona (Don't drive within 12 hours after)

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - While recreational marijuana is now legal in Arizona, driving impaired with weed in your system is against the law, and officers are cracking down on marijuana-related DUI.

A traffic stop for a marijuana-related DUI will usually start like an alcohol-related one, but a breathalyzer for marijuana isn't commonly available for law enforcement, so officers need other ways to detect drugs in a suspect's system.

Often, a drug recognition expert gets called out, and if it's determined the driver is impaired, marijuana DUI investigations in Arizona require a blood test.

"If you just have marijuana in your system, that's all it takes," said Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Rick Morris.

So then how can someone drive to their job?

Answer: What “job” is that?

They were staying home to watch TV and sleep. And check the phone to make sure the latest government money was direct deposited.

Slowly it becomes apparent that traffic accidents from marijuana are skyrocketing.

That's as it should be, for alcohol or marijuana: adult sale, purchase, and use legal - driving while impaired illegal.

People convicted of DUI--alcohol or pot or other drugs--should lose their license permanently. If they injure someone, it should be a mandatory 1 year jail term (and a felony), if they kill someone, it should be for life.

I was once clipped head-on by a drunk drive, turns out also an illegal alien, using a friend's car.

Job? Use pot, can’t pass drug test, can’t get job.

My previous two data analyst/scientist positions didn't do drug testing. I don't think testing is a common practice for regular hires in the tech sector.

It depends on the employer.

Guess it depends on the company. Most of my previous IT work, before starting my own company, was with DoD contractors and companies contracting with those contractors. I think I experienced near 100% drug testing.

You can be impaired by lack of sleep, grief, depression, etc.

The article is about being convicted because of having ANY level of metabolites in your system I(which could be there a month after you last smoked) not impairment.

You are an idiot.

False; the article is about blood tests - "In terms of a blood test, THC can be detected for a few hours afterward." (https://www.leyba-defense.com/marijuana-dui-long-marijuana-stay-system/)

[Missouri gal:] traffic accidents from marijuana are skyrocketing.

Link?

First sentence of first result:

"There has been an increase by up to 6 percent in the number of highway crashes in four of the states where the recreational use of marijuana has been legalized, according to a pair of new studies."

No "skyrocketing" there.
