I've read that the majority of urban 18 year olds can't even qualify for military service because of physical, mental or criminal history disabilities.
It might just work! The youngsters might all be UNITED in their hatred of forced labor.
Probably not the best timing considering commies have just taken over fedgov.
Mexicans sure do get around. And Central Americans. And military families. And Californians and and and. This guy is the one who is in his own cohort.
We do have some infrastructure in need of repair, with lack of funds to take care of it. On the other hand, we are spending a prodigious amount of money on people not working for it. Hmmm...
It is amazing what and army of people can do with shovels and wheelbarrows.
A dumb idea.
Mandatory service. Where? Right now every single government service is under the control of the swamp critters.
Every single government entity is requiring employees/members to attend classes intended to make them “woke”.
So your recommendation is that we force more of our youth to be subjected to this brainwashing?
Dumb.
The level of stupidity on this point is strong. Just look has the left has polluted our military - and project it to this ‘national service’ cause which will likely only increase division than heal it. One cannot compel ‘service’ except as a form of servitude to the almighty govt.
And what pray tell would our little environmental activists do for our country, pass out tickets to motorists who have gasoline engines?
“We’re just as bad as the left.”
No we are not as bad as the left, it just means that the writer is a leftist.
And of course the answer is hell no.
Representatives in Congress might be assigned to live in randomly chosen neighborhoods.
Mitch, stick your hand into the bowl.
Dodge Park - where’s that?
AOC, stick your hand into the bowl.
Wheaton - I think I’m go to die, or get a media job.
Nope
incompatible with freedom
Actually, it’s time to honor the Constitution as amended, especially the 10th Amendment, and get the federal out of trying to fix the country and likewise prevent it from delegating any “authority” to international governance or NGOs!
More guards for the Capital Hill fortress?
“Mexicans sure do get around. And Central Americans.”
They go to where there is work and do it.
We have several prominent demographic groups (that I will not name for a well-known reason) that need to copy them.
Girls MUST REGISTER just like the BOYS! They want EQUALITY!
Or we could abolish the draft for boys too. That way we get both personal freedom AND equality. As an added bonus the FedGov would have to persuade a number of We the People to sign up if they want to fight another unconstitutional "police action".
Slavery?
Forced Wokeism?
Two different wars, with different circumstances. I would make the argument that the Axis posed a real existential threat, the goal was clear (total defeat of the enemy) , and most were in agreement on it--so much so that young men didn't wait around to be drafted. Vietnam, not so much. So morale suffered.
"Mandatory service on the military side brings another benefit. Twenty years of fighting in the Middle East has contributed significantly to the erosion of support and trust in our national leaders."
Like Vietnam, what exactly was the goal, and what exactly was achieved in 20 years? I'm sure I'm not the only one asking that question. Especially when it would appear that certain elements of the US government were playing both sides (Hillary Clinton/Benghazi, Obama/ISIS).
While Heinlein had an interesting idea in "Starship Troopers" (the book, not the movie), with the current state of our country, no way on mandatory service.
Some of us who insist on re-electing Assistant Democrats are...
NO.
You can bet anyone signing up for "national service" would be subjected to hard-core CRT training first - before being put into service to tear down Confederate statues and clean up after BLM and anti-fa riots.
