Sure, he does his own thing, that's great.

But if he turns off a % of potential followers, that's an avoidable dead loss. "Por Exemplo," my wife is a great conservative, but when she sees "Homeless Dumpster Living Steve," she reflexively goes, "Ewww! Gross!" and it's hard to get her to pay attention to one word he says.

This is a totally avoidable loss. I'm not saying that Steve should get a crewcut, but how about a shave and a ponytail, "Jack Tar" style? Or is Steve's "I'm don't care, I'm just a gross slob like Michael Moore in appearance" schtick worth automatically losing 10-20% of potential viewers?

If you want to win, you don't give up 10-20% of viewers for false "I won't cut my hair until we win!" vanity. That is penitentiary jailbird thinking. It's a turnoff.

Even without a haircut, a "Jack Tar" shave and ponytail (see Russell Crowe above) is 100X better.
