A petition urging Google to allow its staff to use their chosen names on their identification badges — among other calls to improve workplace culture for contracted employees — is swiftly gaining traction after Phares Lee, a transgender man employed by G4S in a contracted security position for Google, said he asked to have his deadname removed from his own badge and was repeatedly denied.
Spearheaded by the Alphabet Workers Union on Tuesday, the petition titled “Drop the Deadnames” now has 700 signatures, many of which are from individuals employed by Google. (A deadname refers to the name a transgender individual was given at birth and is no longer the name they use upon transitioning. Sharing someone's deadname can be painful for that individual, as well as potentially out them as transgender to those who do not know.)
Lee, who has worked at Google’s data center in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, since 2018, told the Verge he was required by G4S — the security firm subcontracted by Google — to keep his deadname on his badge because it was his legal name, though he noticed there were other employees, “both cis and transgender,” whose badges did not reflect their legal names.

Should there be a homicide investigation into all these dead names
For those few of you who don’t know what a “deadname” may be:
(from the article):

Is there a dead ‘age’ situation, where you just want to remain 25, even when you are 55 years old?
Just what we need a world in which words and names keep changing.
Now it’s “deadnames”.
Unless the person has gone to court for a legal name change, the “deadname” is their real name.
When the hospital orderly asked me what pronoun I would like used, I replied I’d like to be referred to as “You Majesty”.
He laughed and dutifully wrote it on my chart.
You wanna be called by a different name? Go down to the courthouse, pay the $50 and petition to have your name legally changed. This is really about people who are too lazy to get their name changed. They can take hormones, get multiple invasive and disfiguring surgeries but they can’t be bothered to get their name changed?
GTFO.

Did the 700 signatores use their deadname...or their cosplay name or their “firry” name or their avatar, or their “handle”? Don’t do business with these psychotics.
They should pull the Crocodile Dundee... That’s not a Sheila....
Shirley you jest.
Hi Im Barney the Dinosaur. You will address me by my chosen name.
Next week it may be Tree Branch, or possibly Rusty Nail.
But my wishers MUST be respected.
“Deadname”. At least it’s early enough in the day to still learn my one thing since that is worthless knowledge.
“His Royal Highness AppyPappy”
I guess it’s only fitting that deadweight should have a deadname...
As if any of them even try to keep it a secret. Its their show and they're the star.
How many times can she vote in the next elections?
Thanks for the explanation.
Aww, the names their parents gave them are hurtful. Whaaa, last week I demanded to be called Almighty Ruler of the Universe and Beyond. This week, it’s Just Harry. Next week, please print me up a new name tag for Mr. Kitty Fluffikins. I’d also like to file a complaint that the person two cubicles over won’t share They.
Google has approximately 135K employees. A petition of 700 names is not huge.

10 years ago when I turned 65 (my dead age) I decided to go backwards, as a result, in a few weeks I’ll be 55 (new age) instead of 76 (dead age) 10 more years and I’ll be in my prime.
When I get back to 6 (new age) I’m getting that pony I always wanted.
