I imagine God used something a little more sophisticated than either metric or nonmetric systems when designing the universe, but I agree the metric system has definite advantages. And the whole scientific community is basically hard-wired to use the metric system. Everything makes more sense using it.

Truck drivers don’t want.
Around here you just take up two lanes before.
Gotta swerve back and fourth ahead of time to shake the cars from your side.

Whatever.
You don’t want “lanes”...that’s just chaotic.

I hated “roundabouts” when I was driving in Europe during my 2 tours in Germany and I hate them here in the US as well.I was stationed outside of a metro area in Germany, at Hahn and Spangdahlem ABs, so roundabouts weren't much of a concern. Traffic, in general, wasn't much of a concern either.
My 28 mile commute to Spangdahlem from my apartment in Traben-Trarbach had exactly one traffic light. The few times I was nailed for speeding in a town, I paid the fine on the spot...20 Deutschemarks. I loved that drive, it took me through the Urziger Wurzgarten vineyards. All in all, a very pleasant 40 minute drive.

Thanks for posting those maps. The autobahn bridge was not completed until long after I left Germany. I preferred the view from the top of the ridge on my way home. On a clear day, you could see the Mosel Valley in all its splendor for miles.
Every time I came over that ridge, whatever stress or negative vibes I had were lifted from me.
