Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat, won a landslide victory in a special House election in New Mexico on Tuesday, claiming the seat previously held by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and easily turning back a Republican effort to make the race a referendum on rising crime in the Albuquerque-based district.

Stansbury (D) - 79,208 - 60.3%
Moores (R) - 46,977 - 35.7%
Turnout - 28.7%
Was the Republican - Moores - a Hispanic?
It’s New Mexico it really hasn’t produced much the last 10-15 years other then Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul being based there so no loss
Half. One side of his family has been in the US since the 1600's. I believe that is the Spanish side.
Landslide? I smell another stolen election. Anyone down there tough enough to force a recount?
I guess NM doesn’t need their oil and gas revenue.
Are you in NM, now?
Believe it not, New Mexico is (was) the #4 oil producing state in the USA. In 2019, it was actually pumping more oil than Alaska.
A big section of the west Texas Permian Basin laps over the border into New Mexico.
Almost the entire N.M. field is tight shale and can be pumped only with fracking.
Biden plans to shut down all fracking on federal land, so the New Mexico state budget is in deep trouble.
Dominion to the riggs-skew...
They use dominos machines. And they let the dead and Mexican citizens vote. Elections in New Mexico are a farce.
Was this a Democrat seat in the past?
Yes.
The previous Congress woman has been appointed Secretary of the Interior.
Biden, I have read, won this District by 23% in November.
This race was just over 24%, with very low turnout.
Looks like status quo voting to me.
New Mexico’s CD-1, 2020
Democratic Deb Haaland (incumbent) 186,953 58.2
Republican Michelle Garcia Holmes 134,337 41.8
Total votes 321,290 100.0
Democratic hold
Thanks, Joe.
Just over a 16% margin last November?
Ouch.
24% in 2021 is serious bad news.
Unless there are local or candidate issues we do not know about.
Dominion
I dont think the Rs made a big play for it. Maybe it was name recognition?
Turnout here was much higher than the recent special in Texas 6.
The GOP is a dead party walking. The left has now taken over most of the Southwest and the eyes are on Texas.
I’ll be shocked if Cruz doesn’t lose in a few years. Cornyn is probably safe though. Abbott appears to be doing the right thing on constitutional carry, but TX is and always will be pissed at Cruz/Abbott for how the freeze went. Just how it is. Not to mention demographics are shirting TX to blue anyway.
They voted for it they own it let the state go bankrupt for all I care
