Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat, won a landslide victory in a special House election in New Mexico on Tuesday, claiming the seat previously held by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and easily turning back a Republican effort to make the race a referendum on rising crime in the Albuquerque-based district.

You guys believe way too much in the system and elections. It’s like reading a board of fans for a losing, last place baseball team that was destroyed by bad trades. “We’ll get them next time.”

Well, we all learn lessons from our experiences, so what have we learned from this...

That New Mexico is a state that is not part of the American Experiment.

If they are not for patriotism, they they are the enemy.

In other words, they voted for more of the same.

New Mexico’s license plates have ‘NEW MEXICO USA’ on them. I guess they want to assure people that they really are part of America. They sure cannot prove it by their elections.

If anyone here thinks the Republicans will ever win another election, anywhere, I have a ‘Golden’ bridge in San Francisco I’d like to sell ya.

No matter what they do from here out there is a set number of their core base that are simply not going to vote and that number is well north of 5 million and likely close to 10 million.

You claim to be a 'good shot' but you missed the target on this one.

Those numbers are simply a swag, pulled from your butt, and quoted as if you have facts upon which to base wild assed guesses.

Pure opinion, and uninformed opinion at that.

TX is and always will be pissed at Cruz/Abbott for how the freeze went.

Proving once again, that Texans get too much credit for everything.

Don't tell me, "That's just how it is" and expect rational people to accept that as a reason.

The district is dominated by Albuquerque, a typically liberal big city. A large number of Spanish Americans, descended from 17th Century colonists, tend to support their well established dynasties, such as the Lujans. Indian reservations as well. When Albuquerque was dependent on the military and the Spanish Americans were still leaning GOP, the district was mildly Republican. Due to the influx of outsiders, including Mexicans, the political climate shifted around 2000.

Was this a Democrat seat in the past?

Solid Blue for some time.

Take a breath. This is a very blue district.

In 2022, we will easily get the House.

Are you in NM, now?

Nope. Still stuck in PA at the moment. Working to change that.

“New Mexico’s 1st congressional district of the United States House of Representatives serves the central area of New Mexico, including most of Bernalillo County, all of Torrance County, and parts of Sandoval, Santa Fe and Valencia counties. It includes almost three-fourths of Albuquerque. The district has a notable Native American presence, encompassing several pueblos including the Pueblo of Laguna and Sandia Pueblo, and the Tohajiilee Navajo Reservation outside Albuquerque.” - Wiki

Won by Joe by 23 points. In 2016, Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham won by 31 points!

The margins in this district are beyond the need for the Democrats to cheat. It is as hopeless for the GOP as Massachusetts.

You are correct those numbers are pure swag but they are not uninformed in the least. This prediction is based on many years of closely following political issues. The bad news is my swag has over the years proved very accurate. You can look up on this very board many of them but if you want to remain optimistic about the midterms I wouldn't do that.

The reality is the damage is done and those 5-10 million people are lost no matter what we say or do here on this board or anywhere else. While anything in politics is possible it's very very unlikely this can be reversed. The GOP sealed their fate when they allowed the election to be stolen. It's the commie dems election to lose and they would really have to screw themselves to blow it.

All the rotting blue blood GOP has to offer is vote for us we are not the Democrats. They can’t promise anything because they have shown since 1995 they are full of crap on their promises. If that is all they have to offer then get ready for more of Pelosi and Schumer, because the GOP is not offering a choice but a weak wussified echo of the D’s...

They do, but for the left.

What we need are Republicans that are pro-Constitution instead of “pinko” Marxists.

The GOP will probably pick up enough seats to take the House in 2022. They don’t need to pick up a lot and many of those districts are in areas where it is harder for Dems to cheat. Senate is tougher due to retirements but possible.

Americans like divided government and the GOP are poised to undeservedly benefit from that. Regardless, it no longer is a big deal who controls Congress. The administrative state and executive branch pulls the strings with a Dem in the WH.
