Study blames climate change for 37% of global heat deaths

More than one-third of the world’s heat deaths each year are due directly to global warming, according to the latest study to calculate the human cost of climate change.

But scientists say that’s only a sliver of climate’s overall toll — even more people die from other extreme weather amplified by global warming such as storms, flooding and drought — and the heat death numbers will grow exponentially with rising temperatures.

Dozens of researchers who looked at heat deaths in 732 cities around the globe from 1991 to 2018 calculated that 37% were caused by higher temperatures from human-caused warming, according to a study Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change.

“These are deaths related to heat that actually can be prevented. It is something we directly cause,” said Ana Vicedo-Cabrera, an epidemiologist at the Institute of Social and Preventative Medicine at the University of Bern in Switzerland.

Researchers took observed temperatures and compared them with 10 computer models simulating a world without climate change. The difference is warming humans caused. By applying that scientifically accepted technique to the individualized heat-death curves for the 732 cities, the scientists calculated extra heat deaths from climate change.

And how many lives were saved from freezing in the winter?

The only question I have is who funded this study.

Once that is known, anyone can predict what the outcome of the study will be.

Do they subtract from all the people who froze to death in the winter?

This is a nonsense article. Heat causes heat deaths and heat is no greater than when I was a kid.

How many lives were saved from increased crop yields because of higher CO2 concentrations ?

How does this happen when climate change is creating blizzards.

Researchers took observed temperatures and compared them with 10 computer models simulating a world without climate change.

How many of the old computer models for global temperatures correctly predicted the increased temperatures?

One can't help but laugh at these "scientists" expertise in dishing out bullshit to the public and calling it objective science.

There is no way they could pin deaths down to human caused global warming to a precise 37%. How they could make that assertion with a straight face is laughable.

It was 40F at my house today and I had already shut down my heater for the season. Hope my garden didn’t get hurt.

It makes us wonder how we survived as kids here in the Humid South West!

I remember fifty three years ago today, home on leave from Okinawa. I went fishing. Temp was about 98 degrees and humidity around 70%. Caught lots of fish and had to buy a foam ice chest and ice to keep them from spoiling.

We had no AC at that time. I would often wake up in the night bathed in my own sweat.

Man-made CO2 stands at about 0.0016% of the atmosphere (picture that as 1 pixel among 62,500 pixels).

Water vapor (i.e., clouds and such) averages 2-3% and can rise above 4% at times (picture that as 1 pixel among 2,500 pixels).

Let’s go with 2.5% for water vapor and man’s CO2 responsibility:

2.5/0.0016 = 1,562.5......meaning water vapor is 1,562 times more voluminous and prevalent in the atmosphere, yet CO2 is blamed without even the slightest mention of water vapor.

So, this “journalist” thinks CO2 is causing death and destruction. What a maroon.....
