MEXICO CITY - The notoriously violent Jalisco cartel has responded to Mexico’s “hugs, not bullets” policy with a policy of its own: The cartel kidnapped several members of an elite police force in the state of Guanajuato, tortured them to obtain names and addresses of fellow officers and is now hunting down and killing police at their homes, on their days off, in front of their families.
It is a type of direct attack on officers seldom seen outside of the most gang-plagued nations of Central America and poses the most direct challenge yet to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s policy of avoiding violence and rejecting any war on the cartels.
But the cartel has already declared war on the government, aiming to eradicate an elite state force known as the Tactical Group which the gang accuses of treating its members unfairly.
“If you want war, you’ll get a war. We have already shown that we know where you are. We are coming for all of you,” reads a professionally printed banner signed by the cartel and hung on a building in Guanajuato in May.
López Obrador campaigned on trying to deescalate the drug conflict, describing a “hugs, not bullets” approach to tackle the root causes of crime. Since taking office in late 2018, he has avoided openly confronting cartels, and even released one capo to avoid bloodshed, saying he preferred a long-range policy of addressing social problems like youth unemployment that contribute to gang membership.

Mexico is a mess.
Yeah, let’s keep that border open. All of those Narcos selling the dope that Americans just won’t sell.
The violence is already spilling over into the US
North Mexico (aka USA) is not far behind.
It’s an act of love according to Yeb!
It’s only a matter of time before ANTIFA and BLM adopt the same tactics here in the USA.
“It’s only a matter of time before ANTIFA and BLM adopt the same tactics here in the USA.”
That would be a hoot! Bring it on!
We have an armed citizenry in many places. Mexico does not have that. We also have a much more vigorous law enforcement (even as they are under attack by the left) and a functional court system.
Mexico is a tragedy. They are blessed with a tremendous climate and natural resources with so much potential, but they cannot get out of their own way. The problems are deeply rooted and widespread. Our nations insatiable appetite for narcotics has not helped them, but even if they could not sell drugs it would still be a mess.
“It’s only a matter of time before ANTIFA and BLM adopt the same tactics here in the USA.”
They already do. It’s called doxing, only without the murder (so far).
“Nuestro amigable vecino del sur.”
If this happens in the U.S., even once, police will resign in droves. Their wives and families won’t let them work in law enforcement any longer. This would dramatically accelerate the already increasing level of crime in this country.
I’m not so sure about our vigorous law enforcement. They burned down a freaking police precinct and have held siege to federal facilities in Oregon largely without consequence.
Most local jurisdictions are still solid, but the FBI and other leftists’ excuses for law enforcement in Democrat hell holes are a bad joke.
Right now they're busy rounding up those Insurrectionist's who dared to step inside Nancy Pelosi’s Fortress to take some Selfies.
Definitely a “Clear and Present Danger”.
I believe Tom Clancy had a scenario that would be acceptable to most, absent the complicit CIA.
I doubt the the Mexican police are all clean either.
Just an observation.
If there is a civil war in the US and Feds start going after conservatives, the same strategy will be employed against them and their families.
What’s that phrase... oh yeah: “Enemies Foreign and Domestic”...
In most jurisdictions it would not be tolerated. Antifa/BLM generally sticks to leftists hellholes where like minded people are in charge and they will be tolerated or even condoned.
It really is a matter of public will. The City of Detroit is very liberal, but they made it clear that they would not tolerate riots and they acted quickly to stop them. They have had few problems. You don’t see this stuff being tolerated in red states either.
I believe Tom wrote two books that are applicable. Clear and Present Danger was the one that targeted the Columbian cartels after they killed a friend of the President who was ripping them off (money launderer) and Hammerheads (I think) was a book about securing the border using the military.
