The question is: Compared to what?
The proper comparison would be to what the death rate for the same age group would be in the villages they came from.
I’m in northern Alberta, living near some of these places they did this stuff in. I know all about how heavily handed the church was. There was disease rest assured, but there was also a lot of thinning the herd going on. Very much like they are doing to us now.
