Over what time period did these people die?

What was the cause of the death?

There are many questions that can be asked, but instead on the radio I’m hearing here that white people are evil and they are using this to divide us even more.

They won’t be happy until we’re at each other’s throats so they can advance unimpeded on their agendas.

So an average of around 3 a year? And starting in the1890s? Child death from disease wasn’t exactly unknown back then. They want to act like this is the Third Reich.

Idiots.

I am very sorry for each child.

Perhaps they were all abused or neglected to death as implied.

Or perhaps it is a graveyard the school made and used and did nothing wrong.

We don’t know. It is wrong to act as though these poor kids were all tortured. They may have had tb or scarlet fever or rubella or whatever.

Wait until we find out and then get outraged.

This is horrific. There is no good excuse for hundreds of secret burials at a small school.

The Canadian government kidnapped these kids and forced them into what was a government reeducation camp.

Hundreds of Secwepemc children attended the school, many forcibly removed from their homes following the introduction of mandatory attendance laws in the 1920s. Children who attended the school were not allowed to speak their native Secwepemctsin language and were whipped for using it. The school was featured in the 1962 Christmas-themed film Eyes of the Children. Produced by George Robertson, the film followed 400 students as they prepared for Christmas and aired on the CBC on Christmas Day. At one point, it was the largest Canadian residential school. Canadian politician Leonard Marchand was among the many students to have attended the school. Another was George Manuel, who said his three strongest memories of the school were: "hunger; speaking English; and being called a heathen because of my grandfather."

On December 24, 1924, the girls' wing of the school was destroyed by a fire, forcing 40 students into −10 °C (14 °F) weather in only their night clothes. Three years later, in 1927, a report outlining the conditions at the school concluded that the poor construction of buildings at the school led to "numerous infections, colds, bronchitis, and pneumonia" during the previous winter.

Do you really think the entire nation is mourning?

Here, we had a residential school for boys (really a youth jail) and about 100 graves are discovered at the school. The graves were unmarked. It is a shame if the school killed those First Nations kids...

This is probably the best graphic I found to show what happened. It is a stark reminder of how much we have improved health care in the last 70 years.

Since mass graves tend to be used at a time for mass deaths, since they are one-shot things, I suspect that most or all of these children died during an epidemic. Most likely the Spanish flu of 1918.

“British Columbia First Nations had an experience of Spanish Flu that exceeded Philadelphia’s. B.C. First Nations suffered 671 deaths province-wide from Spanish Flu in 1918-19. That works out to 27.1 deaths per 1,000 people per annum.”

.....a typical First Nation village in Alaska highlights the old saying “poor people have poor ways”.

The villages in most cases look like a junk yard every where you look up and down each and every street. There must not have EVER been a thought the past 1,000 years of “cleaning up the front yard” and never mind the back yard at all.

Incest and general child abuse flourishes even until today. In many cases, there is no law enforcement present in the communities so rape goes uninvestigated, unprosecuted and unpunished.

The bottom line is there are no words to describe how awful a place a typical village is so efforts to get children out of them (i.e. rescue them from the incapacities of their tribe council) are and were noble though no doubt imperfect and should be seen that way.

Since death rates in the schools appear to be less than the general population, there is no story here and the Christian Community was clearly intent on improving the lives of First Nation Children and probably did.

I was at a cemetery where the child deaths headstones/metal markers could no longer be identified because they’re small compared to adults.

The Spanish Flu alone wiped out entire villages in Arctic region . Natives Indians in the north had no immunity to this Flu .

Read up on Dillingham AK which was found to be wiped out with no survivors over one winter from the Spanish Flu . I like to see the death certificates .

This appears to be another hoax by some Left Wingers .

Large death tolls among Native Americans from disease are not uncommon. European diseases wiped out far more Natives than did bullets and war. Natives were already being ravaged by epidemics in the mid Sixteenth Century. DeSoto travelled through the South in the 1540s and found uninhabited bone riddled villages. New England Indians had already suffered such death that when the Puritans began to land in the 1620s there were few Natives left to resist. Between 1492 and 1600 virtually the entire Native population of the Caribbean was wiped out. When Cortez conquered Mexico in 1521 there were an estimated 20 million Indians. A century later there were no more than 2 million. In 1837 an epidemic swept through the tribes along the Missouri River and nearly wiped out the entire Mandan tribe. In 1763 British Colonel Jeffrey Amherst intentionally killed thousands by spreading smallpox among the Indians of the Midwest to put down Pontiac’s war.

In Oklahoma I live near a number of Indian cemeteries. When you walk through one of these it is a sad thing to see the ages of the people buried there. So many of them are children, and if you look at the dates of death you also notice that many of them died within a close time period. Children who appear to be of the same family dying within days of one another. No one today in the United States knows the true devastation of what disease can do to a population. We see the individual sadness as we lose loved ones, but imagine losing your children, your parents, your friends, and much of your community all dying within a few short weeks.

When you know the historical context of disease it is not hard to imagine an entire Jesuit school full of Native children being wiped out within a brief period of time. I doubt there was any attempt to coverup these deaths, but if there was it was likely by an embarrassed, incompetent administrator and not by the Canadian government. As a side note my own Great Grandmother, a Scottish woman with a Scottish husband, gave birth to 13 children. Disease took 8 of them before the reached adulthood.
