With These Numbers, All Trump Has to Do Is Declare His 2024 Run and the GOP Primaries Are Over

Before Mitt Romney became a thorn in the side of the Republican Party, he was in a similar position as Donald Trump. After the 2012 election, almost everything Romney predicted would happen under a second Obama term—happened. Russia ran amok, Obamacare was a disaster, premiums rose and hurt the middle class, and job growth was anemic.

Now, we have gas lines shutting down in the eastern United States, anemic job growth, China going rogue, Russia running amok again, inflation rising, another war in Gaza, and Joe is out getting chocolate chip ice cream. The "I told you so" narrative is there—and Trump could win it if he chooses. I do believe that—big league. The Trump coalition is durable, passionate, and will mobilize in droves. They're also one of the deadliest blocs of voters in terms of political geography; they're very efficiently dispersed throughout the country. Oh, and they hate being polled so you don't know where they'll pop up. The only question is if Trump wants to run again. If he does mount a 2024 campaign, the primaries are over as the number of Republicans who want him to run again is sky-high (via The Hill):

A majority of Republicans want former President Trump to run for the White House in 2024 as he mulls a comeback bid, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Sixty-six percent of Republicans say they want Trump to run for a third time after winning in 2016 and losing in 2020, compared with 25 percent of Republicans who say the former president should not run in 2024.

Eighty-five percent of Republicans polled said they want candidates running for elected office to agree with the former president, compared to just 10 percent who said they want contenders to mostly disagree with him.

The number is another indication that the former president remains a leader in the Republican party and holds sway over the GOP down-ballot candidates.

Trump isn't going away. The populist movement is here. It's here to stay. And this is merely halftime. Trump's political value hasn't depreciated in any way, shape, or form. What to do? He's in his 70s. He's rich. Why bother running for office again when he can enjoy his money? Would he like the kingmaker role? If Trump decides to run again, the primaries are over. If he doesn't, he needs to pick a successor, and right now, that looks like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The only question is whether the base will follow? We all see what happens when Trump isn't on the ballot. Turnout dips, but DeSantis is popular with more establishment types as well. Political coalitions are often non-transferable. Will Trump be an exception to the rule if he gets behind DeSantis quickly? We shall see.

Absolutely no way I’d vote for Trump until I see a list of his cabinet picks. I would also have to see the names of at least one hundred DS fascist bureaucrats destined for the axe. We don’t need another wasted chance where one man fights a losing four year battle against the swamp monsters he’s hired. We’ve seen that movie before.

Mitt Romney was always a TransRepublican.

He ran to the left of Ted Kennedy for the Senate in 1994.

He couldn't pick his own cabinet members that required Senate approval in his first term because RINOs in the Senate wouldn't let him. Get that through your head and stop blaming Trump for the actions of Republican establshment.

McConnell and Graham both held Russia Russia Russia over his head.

McConnel wouldn’t give him recess appointments. He couldn’t put his own people in place. Mitch was the president, not Trump.

Driving to work today, I was behind two different pickup trucks with Trump decals in the back window, and one had TRUMP 2024 sticker on the tailgate.

It was a nice way to start the day......

You claim to be a 'former' stooge.

With that opening statement, you are still a stooge, maybe not a 'gop' stooge, but a stooge none the less.

Article II Section 2 - the Appointments Clause of the Constitution empowers a president to appoint cabinet members. I do not construe that to mean that a president is legally obligated to appoint cabinet members.

If the president is not obligated to make such appointments then why couldn’t Trump, when he is re-elected - just temporarily appoint deputies to his liking and screw McConnell and Senate ratification.?

Without a doubt, Trump learned a lot about the rhinos in Congress. He won’t be making those appointment mistakes again. Crazy guy that he was; he actually thought that the republicans were the opposition party to the democrats. It is disgusting and shameful that they were only opposed to Trump.

The key is get an attorney general that will be your “wing man.” Like Giulani or DJT Jr.

“ DeSantis is popular with more establishment types as well.”

Why? There’s only one reason for the establishment to like somebody and that’s because they are one of them. We learned that with Pence.

Our resident GOP fluffers would just as soon everyone forget that it was the GOP that hobbled Trump.

I call BS on that weak “non senate approval” excuse. Remember John Ratcliffe? Trump sent his name to Uniparty king pin, McConnell, for confirmation as Director of National Intelligence. McConnell threw the nomination back in Trump’s face. Trump then named Grennell as acting director (good for six months, McConnell sent pounding sand). Grennell was Trump’s only cabinet pick who started kicking DS ass and taking names. McConnell was then begging Trump to send Ratcliffe back for immediate confirmation! Trump could have done it every time after the first month of seeing what he was up against. He didn’t. Quite making excuses. The DS set the rules, Trump happily played by them. He didn’t have to. Remember, we sent him there to NOT play by Uniparty (R) rules.

That’s a really muddled claim. Stooging for who, the Uniparty (R), the Uniparty (D)? I can prove you are a Uniparty (R) stooge. As of now you’re still carrying water the four year, DS dumpster fire, merry go round that was Trump’s cabinet. You are still carrying water for the DOJ, FBI, NSC traitors who ran all three coups and destroyed Trump, MAGA and America. All of whom Trump could have fired. You don’t see many stooges with eyes open. Try it some time.

What is a TransRepublican as opposed to a RiNO?

That’s BS. Remember acting Director of National Intelligence, Richard Grenell? Remember McConnell’s stance on John Ratcliffe’s rejected nomination after Grenell finally showed a Trump pick who actually believed in MAGA? McConnell couldn’t wait to get Ratcliffe back for immediate confirmation. Trump could have done it every time. After six months of Grenell, give them six months of someone even more MAGA radical. The Uniparty would have been screwed! But no, with this worthless and wrong excuse of yours, we end up with the McConnell rubber stamped swamp scum who ruined our country.
