Biden's ATF Nominee Wants to Ban 'Assault Weapons' and His Definition Is Terrifyingly Broad...

President Joe Biden has nominated David Chipman, a longtime gun control advocate, to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), an agency that plays a key role in gun regulations. Chipman, who served as an ATF special agent for 25 years, left to work with former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) at her gun restriction organization Giffords.

During his Senate confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Chipman confirmed his support for a ban on AR-15 rifles. He also suggested he still supports banning “assault weapons,” and he presented an absurdly broad definition of “assault weapon.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) pressed Chipman on his public support for an AR-15 ban.

“Your public position is that you want to ban AR-15s, is that correct?” Cruz asked.

“With respect to the AR-15, I support a ban as has been presented in a Senate bill and supported by the president,” Chipman replied. “The AR-15 is a gun I was issued on ATF’s SWAT team, and it’s a particularly lethal weapon, and regulating it as other particularly lethal weapons I have advocated for.”

However, Chipman insisted that he would follow the law if the Senate confirms him as ATF director, and the law does not currently ban AR-15s.

“As ATF director, if I am confirmed, I would simply enforce the laws on the books, and right now, there is no such ban on those guns,” he added.

It seems rather fitting that Biden — who said he would tap Beto “Hell yes, we’re gonna take your AR-15” O’Rourke to “take care of the gun problem with me” — would nominate an ATF director who wants to ban AR-15s.

Yet Chipman’s responses during the confirmation hearing got even more ominous for American gun owners.

Anyone who goes right to that girlish word does not have his “head in the fight.”

Othewise, the claim is true.

Did Chapman lie in his hearing testimony?

He stated that he was issued an AR-15 as a member of the ATF SWAT team.

Is that true, or was he really issued a M4 or other full auto M16 variant?

It seems more likely that a SWAT team would have a full auto or burst fire rifle and not a AR-15, but I don’t know for sure. Does anyone know what they were really issued?

“it’s a particularly lethal weapon”

Umm, what the hell does that even mean? Does an AR-15 make someone more dead than a revolver?

Mr. David Chipman, Jao Bai-Din's lackey, needs to be thrown out of government for publicly stating that his intent as a government employee is to NOT support and defend the Constitution.

David Chipman cannot take the oath to be a new BATFE recruit much less director. His oath would be a lie and his paycheck would be collected under fraudulent terms.

Up until 1984, the anti-gun forces always said they wanted to register and ban HANDGUNS. “Rifles will not be affected!”

Then they found it was easier to go after rifles than handguns.

If they can get a rifle ban, they will be back for the handguns.

I do recall seeing a request for proposals for the Dept of Homeland Security for thousand of selective fire ‘Personal Defense Weapons’ a few years back. I would imagine ATF wouldn’t accept anything less.

He committed perjury.

I knew a guy who was a member of the ATF SWAT team. I’ve held his rifle. It was a select fire M$, not a civilian semi-auto AR-15.

This dolt knows the difference. He’s a liar.

The nominee's "terrifyingly broad" definition is not as broad as the one proposed in current House and Senate bills, including the one cosponsored by VP Harris.

Those bans do cover .22's, including common guns like the Ruger 10-22 carbine (if it has a folding stock) and the S&W Victory .22 plinking pistol (because of the threaded barrel.)

You missed that train 15 years ago.

Before Obama I remember cases of 1000 round mil-surplus for an unimaginable price today ($125 shipped to door).

You just want to see me cry, isn’t that it? Well, I didn’t have a 308 15 years ago. Or even last year. Gun salesman Biden (Gun Salesman of the Century) sold me on the idea. I blame him.

My deer rifle is much more deadly than an AR-15. It is by definition and function a larger caliber sniper weapon. The Dems are idiots.

Yes, it was unfeeling of me. It is always a good idea to own a service rifle in 308/7.62x51. Today you can have your pick of a number built on the AR platform.

I would suggest reloading 308, but it is hard to find components. Primers are going for 10 cents/per, a 10x increase, if you can find them. Powder is more expensive too, if you can find it.
