If the author really thinks this then he's six kinds of stupid. Stop and think. Hearings are going to happen because this is too good a political issue for the Democrats to drop. The question is the form they will take.
Three advantages to this commission was the agreement of a 50/50 split between Democrat and Republican members, both sides agreeing to subpoenas, and a set end date of December 31st. Under those circumstances the GOP could at least rein it in a bit and it would be over long before the 2022 election cycle began. Instead the Democrats will Benghazi the Republicans. Hearings will instead be held in House committees, where the Democrats have the majority. Subpoenas will be issued, and Republicans can't limit them. And the hearings can run well into 2022 because the Democrats will want them to and the Republicans can't stop them. So killing the commission could well turn out to be a pyrrhic victory for McConnell. House hearings, and maybe Senate hearings, will be much worse.

These riots happen because the people in charge do nothing. I live in Florida and our Governor is pro active and won’t put up with it. Beyond that the mayors won’t put up with it. I live in Polk County and our sheriff openly tells us to keep ourselves armed and don’t be afraid to use them. And if you shoot at a cop then you will get killed. Simple rules. Law and order.
The real insurrection started right after November 9th, 2016, and culminated on November 3, 2021. Essentially, a slow-motion insurrection against a democratically elected president.
