STUDY: People With HIV Age 14 Years Faster New study shows evidence HIV accelerates age-related diseases.

HIV positive patients may be living longer, but they may also be aging faster than expected. A new study published today in PLOS One shows that HIV-positive people are at an increased risk of age-related diseases such as some cancers, frailty, osteoporosis, kidney disease, and neurocognitive disease. Researchers think that it is the HIV itself that accelerates the aging process by 14 years, rather than medications used to treat it. Scientists from the UCLA AIDS Institute and Center for AIDS Research and the Multi-Center AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) investigated whether the virus induced age-associated epigenetic changes (that is, changes to the DNA that then led to changes in expression of genes but do not change the genetic code). These kinds of transitions can be brought on by environmental factors or the aging process itself. “While we were surprised by the number of epigenetic changes that were significantly associated with both aging and HIV-infection, we were most surprised that the data suggests HIV-infection can accelerate aging-related epigenetic changes by 13.7 to 14.7 years,” says Beth Jamieson, professor of medicine in the division of hematology/oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, director of the UCLA Flow Cytometry Core, and one of the study’s senior authors. “This number is in line with both anecdotal and published data suggesting that treated HIV-infected adults can develop the diseases of aging mentioned above, approximately a decade earlier than their uninfected peers.” this The researchers studied 96 samples of white blood cells that came from young and old HIV patients before they began ART. Interesting. I tried to look up the average age of death of those with HIV, and finally found one site that said mid-fifties.
Also.interesting to me is that I cannot find any updates on this HIV health information. I assume it still happens, but are homosexuals hiding the information?

A few years ago I had my hip replaced at the world's most famous hospital (hint: it's in Boston). My surgeon advised me to donate a couple of units of my own blood beforehand to be stored in the blood bank...just in case it was needed during the surgery.

There's no ironclad guarantee that the blood you receive from the Red Cross is 100% clean....even today.

In 1981 I had a subscription to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report that was published by the CDC when it was a reputable agency. The publication had extensive coverage of the “Gay Men’s Disease” as it was then known. They actually published the sexual histories of the men from NYC, San Fransicko, and LA who developed this curious malady. That was enough to curl my nosehairs and make me gag and I’m no prude. In retrospect it is no surprise that these men became infected. When you are engaged in anal and oral sex with upwards of 50+ male “partners” daily plus consuming a plethora of drugs it takes a toll on you.

I forgot to mention: the article says HIV-infected people age 14 years, but doesn’t say they will/might die 14 years early. That is what I assume, but their lifetimes are less than average now.

Originally, the studies worked with many homosexual magazines that were around then, and they studied the obituaries in them. That's where they got a whole lot of information for their study.

Once the homosexuals found out where the info was coming from for these studies, they stopped publishing obits and at least removed the ages of the dead homosexuals. Sneaky, but the obits provided a wealth of information.

This report says that Methylation is at a higher level with homosexuals. They don't say why they make a lot of assumptions in that report.

The logical first step in my mind is to see why Methylation isn't braking down into Methylfolate which is what the body uses. The process and the gene that does this is called MTHFR
