MANILA – Cracks are appearing in Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s ruling coalition over what is expected to be a hard-knuckled contest at the 2022 presidential elections.
The surprising challenge comes from no less than the ambitious boxer-turned-politician, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, who has fixed his gaze on the top office.
In recent months, the 42-year-old Filipino prize fighter icon, who is currently serving his first term as a senator, has rapidly transformed from a reliable and unquestioning ally into one of the most vocal critics of the Filipino president.
Amid growing anti-China sentiment in the Philippines, the prospective presidential candidate has also taken an increasingly tough stance on the South China Sea disputes in stark contrast to the Beijing-friendly president.

Duterte cant run due to 1 term policy plus he’s China’s bitch, almost never saying anything bad about the chicoms but bitches about the US every time he gets a chance. He only acted now on the islands because he wants to show at least some “fight” (fake) before he leaves office. ( I keep up because my brother is married to a Filipina)
Gosh, I saw and had Pacman autograph for me a few times as the his boxing gym is literally 5 minutes away from me here in Hollywood. 10 years I visit that place before any big fight 3 blocks you can never get parking. It’s unreal. I saw the De La Hoya fight live in Vegas too.
He’s the real deal. I personally know his bodyguards here in L.A. and he wears his Christianity on his sleeve and doesnt have a hate on his opponents. I personally think Duterte’s VP Robredo (who Duterte hates and vice versa as in the Philippines, VP elections run independent of political parties unlike in the US as a package deal GOP or Dummycrat) might win.
The set up now is like having a democrap as Prez and Vp is a republican. so both Duterte and Robredo gets in each others faces for the past 6 years, Duterte got “rid” of everyone except HER Robredo (yeah, she a lady)..
