I saw a video clip of Joe Biden’s inept speech to a Coast Guard Academy graduating class a few days ago, but didn’t get the full impact until I saw the side-by-side comparison below. It turns out that Biden was trying to steal a joke from Ronald Reagan, who used the same line when he addressed a Coast Guard class years ago. Here it is, a master vs. a disaster:
Having heard the original quote as delivered by Reagan, I now understand that the problem wasn’t only Biden’s inept delivery. He actually blew the line, rendering it meaningless and suggesting that he didn’t understand the joke in the first place.
The unfortunate thing, for us Americans, is that the gulf between Reagan and Biden when it comes to policy is even wider than the gap between their communication skills.

Holy cow, that is so pathetic, but then again, this is just another in a long line of examples of how senile ole joe bite me really is.
He can’t even read a teleprompter. And then he insults the audience for not understanding his gibberish.
That is an EXCELLENT comparison. I heard the Biden presentation and it sounded like a jumbled, nonsensical word salad. The side-by-side with President Reagan really shows it.
We are so screwed.
Well - the important thing is that Biden got 100% of the military vote in Fulton County, Georgia.
Plagiarism is a hard habit to break.
So is incompetence.

I noticed from the beginning, no reporter dared say he plagiarized the joke, even those few showing how inept he was compared to the Great Communicator.
And this habit he has of calling our military slow, dull, idiots? Every single person he was addressing is sharper and more intelligent than he is, yet he holds them in such disdain.
It’s like he had to tell the audience to laugh at the joke, shame them into laughing.
He’s pathetic.

Joe has always been a dimwitted thug, he couldn't have done better with this joke even if he were still in full possession of his faculties.
On another thread a Freeper said that “joke” is in a list of things new Coasties need to memorize. And be able to say them at the request of an upperclassman.
Someone else pointed out that they were probably bored of a politician using the old joke. But obviously not when Reagan used it! Of course it helps when you tell the joke properly and are loved by the military.
