Lolz. I did three tours in Iraq and was in the invasion of Panama. If one of my Marines did this, he’d go to the brig.

Military are better trained than LE in a majority of cases. LE are not trained soldiers, they’re SUPPOSED to be peacekeepers.

Getting out of the car and apologizing doesn’t make you immune from getting your ass handed to you.

Cops: We were in the right. Nothing to see here.

Also Cops: Let's hide the video and drag our feet for two years.

That $10K is the reporting level for crossing the border. When it was passed into law, you could buy two Corvettes and a trailer to haul them for that amount of money.

Now it’ll buy you two sets of tires for each of those same vehicles.

Cops are seizing as little as $1000 from innocents travellers. It’s theft, pure and simple.

If someone were able to do that without being shot, I would LOVE to be on that jury.

Somehow I’m guessing you’re going to be spending a lot of time incarcerated between the arrest and the final deliberation outcome though. Some states down south I think the sheriff and even the prosecutor and judge get a taste of that money if I remember correctly. No one likes giving up a revenue stream willingly once that udder has started to produce for them.

This also touches on the IRS’s Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).

There is a movie called “Joe”, from 1970 (Peter Boyle version) where he meets a VERY successful business man.

At one point, the business man sheepishly admits he makes $65k a year as if that is obscene money.

I think this stuff is all fascism, but I would like to see changes that are based on the minimum wage at the time rather than raw dollar amounts. e.g. at the time the $10,000 was set, the minimum wage was probably around $1.60 an hour. So, six thousand times 1.60 an hour would be $9600.

And now, with a $15 minimum wage, the amount would be $90,000. That seems a bit more reasonable.

Then again, they are trying to eliminate the $100 bill because they argue it is “rarely used” or such. However, it’s worth less than a $20 bill was back when I was in high school and we used those a lot. And we occasionally came across $100 bills But that is because we used cash a lot. But imagine them, back in 1975, trying to eliminate the $20 bill.

That’s a great one. Do you have a link to the data by any chance?

You are exactly right. This is above and beyond even military war rules of engagement during a surrender.

Counterpoint: they were trained to use blunt force and Tasers in response to an immediate threat and exercised that training.

And the immediate threat was?

They could’ve pulled their service weapons and opened fire, but they didn’t.

Well one reaction would have been as unjustified as the other, but it might have been more merciful if they put a bullet in his head instead of beating him to death.

Again, I am NOT defending their actions.

You just did.

“It’s a psychological and physiological response. When fight or flight is triggered, the brain and body follow very different scripts. In a fight scenario, it becomes a matter of survival. Logic, reason, and even senses like hearing become dull. Survival taxes the body.”

I’m not getting into an argument about what they did was right or wrong, but I’ll tell you from experience; a high speed chase sends your adrenaline levels through the roof. Most people, even if you’re prepared and trained, will not be able to just automatically turn that switch off when the chase is over.

I’m trying not to play the “I’ve been there” card, but thank you for explaining it concisely. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

No. It’s even worse. It isn’t old black women and men, little kids and the black guy who went to college and got a good job doing these murders. It’s probably less than 1% committing these murders. It’s an ignorant violent underclass, mostly male between age 13-25 that is overwhelmingly the culprits. They are mostly concentrated in ten or twelve urban centers.
It’s time they were dealt with.

Our entire system of justice is built on legal/constitutional protections that are damn near sacred -- the right to due process, a presumption of innocence, protections against self-incrimination and warrantless searches/seizures, etc. But this system only works if it is acknowledged and respected by the government AND the citizenry. If you resist arrest or lead the police on a high-speed chase, all bets are off and your legal rights go right out the window, as far as I'm concerned.
Dr. Jekyll and Alberta's Child.

Pick a side.

True. But, I think on balance, the bodycam footage has generally been a benefit to police more than it’s been incriminating.

Yes, most police interactions are favorable to the police, and bodycams have exonerated police in many cases.

But before bodycam and cell phone video it was very, very rare that an officer would be charged with anything.

Before video was almost everywhere it was very, very rare that an officer would be charged.

That's the reason that Police Unions fought so hard to keep dash cams and body cams out of departments. Even then, they fight to control release of the video.

In no way ever should U.S. Citizens be treated with less humanity than enemy combatants during war.

Absolutely. I know this is factual material, because the woman who put these linked articles together for the Wall Street Journal (Heather MacDonald) not only wrote a book about this, but she still has her job at the WSJ, even though the hue and cry to fire her has been long and loud, but...they gave up because she has the facts.

I will link to a short 7 minute video by Bill Whittle which really explains a lot (and gets all of its data from the link to Heather MacDonald at the Wall Street Journal, who did the number crunching on the federally supplied numbers to reach her conclusions):

Any time the narrative comes up where it is asserted that there exists an epidemic of black men being shot by police officers, here is the statistic that should lead off the ensuing conversation:

In 2015, according to federal crime statistics, a police officer of ANY race is 18 times more likely to die at the hands of a black man, than a black man is to die at the hands of a police officer.

"The Myths of Black Lives Matter" by Heather MacDonald) (Note: This is behind a paywall, but this link takes you to where the article is, in case you need to verify its validity.)

Here is an excellent video from Bill Whittle that not only is NOT behind a paywall, and it COMPLETELY puts things in the proper perspective:

"Black Lives Matter Kills People" by Bill Whittle
It is a 7 minute video which puts it in context, and explains much.

Here are some relevant screen captures from that EXCELLENT video:

(If you are not familiar with Bill Whittle, visit his site at billwhittle.com...I believe he is one of the foremost purveyors of conservative thought today. I am a paying member there, and cannot recommend it highly enough. He has new content nearly every day that is incisive, relevant, and even entertaining.)

I don't have a direct link to that data, by the way, but I believe she gets her data from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Database which is an excellent source, as it is difficult for the Left to decry.

And they have tried to get her fired for speaking the truth, but...were unable to do so.
