One of the most prominent Southern Baptist pastors in the nation is warning Christian parents to keep their kids away from Baylor University.
"What they teach and the underlying philosophy is anti-Christian," Pastor Robert Jeffress said on the Todd Starnes Radio Show. "And I don't think any true Christian parent who wants their kids to have a Christian education would allow their child anywhere near Baylor University."
Jeffress, the pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, and a Baylor alumnus, was set off by the university's recent actions on LGBT-related issues.
The board of regents adopted a resolution that many say will lead the way to the creation of a university-sanctioned LGBT organization.
More than 30 nearby pastors wrote letters to Baylor pleading with leadership to remain faithful to the Bible’s teachings on marriage and sexuality.
Baylor said they still support "purity in singleness and fidelity in marriage between a man and a woman as the biblical norm."
But Dr. Jeffress is warning Christians not to buy what the university is selling.
"Like any good magician, the Baylor administration has mastered the art of distraction and deception," Jeffress told me.
The board of regents directed the university's president to determine the appropriate pathways to provide additional care, connections, and community for Baylor’s LGBTQ students, including the possibility of establishing a new, chartered student group that is consistent with Baylor’s core commitments summarized above and the University’s policies and statements."
"What this really is Todd - is a fraternity for LGBTQ students. The fact is they thought a support group might give the impression that they were trying to help these students. If they were really trying to leave these students out of homosexuality and out of gender confusion, that would be a good thing. But what they're really going to do is to affirm their right to engage in that kind of ungodly behavior," Jeffress said.
Jeffress said the Christianity professed by Baylor University is nothing more than a facade. He said there are professors on the campus who are actively trying to convince the young to question their faith in God.
"Our church has sent students down there for years who have their faith completely torn apart by infidels in the religion department," he said.
Jeffress said it's important for parents and students to investigation Christian universities that are Christian in name only.
"Being filled with Christians doesn't make you a Christian university," Jeffress told Starnes. "It is your viewpoint and what you teach. I say either go to a distinctively Christian university or go to a completely secular university and get a better rate for doing it."
Yes, folks. Pastor Jeffress believes you would be better sending your child to a secular university than Baylor University.
"At least your child will understand the battle lines and what they are instead of being confused by people who claim to be a Christian but act in a completely different way," he added.
Do they censor and ban members of the university community who opposes the LGBTQ agenda? Do they also promote critical race theory?

No, the real test of a privately owned university claiming to be Baptist is whether or not it officially sanctions homosexuality.
I know a friend whose daughter and her husband were totally screwed up at Baylor.
I know a friend whose daughter went to Baylor and turned out just fine.
Well, based on the two anecdotes so far, it would seem that you have a 50-50% chance of leaving Baylor and turning out just fine. Are those good odds?

There are Baptists and Baptists.
There are some Baptist churches and associations that are “LGBT friendly”. Most are apparently not.
And those Baptist Churches that are “LGBT friendly” are neither Christ-centered or Christian.
My daughter just finished her first year at Baylor. She had a fantastic experience and is excited to go back next year. Her Christian faith has been strengthened there, and she’s made some great friends. I think Jeffress is misinformed. How many current Baylor students has he spoken too? I’ve spoken to many, and I’m very impressed by them. If you want to know about Baylor student experinces, ask a current student!
I know a school who had a great QB from Baylor.

This is what happens when you drift away from Torah. You may thrive for a while on the spiritual capital of the biblical narrative, but you will end up in direct opposition to it - 180 degrees from the plain teaching of Scripture. You may be able to stagger on, drawing from your Christian memory, but your children will not, and your grandchildren will one day turn on you and hate your beliefs. We must return the Torah to its proper place; the place it had in the heart and life of Jesus and his disciples. There is no other way.

I am an Orthodox Christian, but I use to be an ELCA Lutheran. The ELCA claims to be Christ-centered and Christian, but it is also LGBTQ friendly. The same is true for all other L:GBTQ-friendly “churches”.
I don’t agree with that, but you’d have big arguments with LGBTQ-friendly “church bodies” that claim to be “Christ-centered and Christian”. That is—unless you do not engage in such arguments, as most of us Orthodox do not!!
Unfortunately, Jeffress is not misinformed.
Though Baylor has many Bible-believing faculty, staff and students, much of the leadership cannot be counted among them. The Religion Department is especially bad, but there is a growing number of faculty and staff that publicly reject Bible-based orthodoxy, and it starts from the top down.
Though President Livingstone has openly promoted heresy (she and her husband both support the homosexual lifestyle choice), sexism (advocates for preferences for females = discrimination against males), discrimination (against conservatives, males, Caucasians, Bible-based beliefs) and bigotry, responsibility falls upon the trustees who either agree with her actions or turn a blind eye. Given Livingstone was a member of a pro-homosexual, liberal congregation prior to coming to Baylor, her “leadership” at Baylor should come as no surprise.
Make no mistake, students can still receive an exceptional education from Baylor, but like most other colleges, they should exercise discernment. They would also do well to seek a local congregation for discipleship (Antioch CC and Harris Creek Baptist are two of the stronger student ministries).
As if the numerous rapes of white female students by black athletes at Baylor — covered up by admin — wasn’t bad enough.

My daughter is getting an excellent education and, as you suggest, she has joined a local congregation with five of her Baylor friends.
I’m not a huge fan of Livingstone. She sends too many annoying verbose emails. But her leadership hasn’t had any recognizable negative impact on my daughter. Perhaps in time Livingstone might damage Baylor. But that’s not what’s happening on campus now. My daughter loves everything about Baylor, and that makes me very happy.
