Report: Joe Biden Will Waive Sanctions for Russia Pipeline to Germany

President Joe Biden will waive some American economic sanctions on Russia in order to streamline construction on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to Germany, according to Axios.

Citing “two sources briefed on the decision,” Axios reporter Jonathan Swan reports the State Department will include the Nord Stream 2 pipeline Russian company and CEO on its list of Russians who deserve sanctions, but the Biden administration will waive them, citing American interests.

So if I’m reading the story right, the only reason sanctions were imposed was because Germany and France wanted the pipeline?

This is now the second normal decision made by Biden (the first one being formal recognition of the Armenian Genocide). The idea of sanctioning this pipeline in order to push prices up so high that American LNG brought on boats across the ocean suddenly becomes economical is utterly asinine.

Like I say though, even a broken clock is right twice per day. The point stands that we need to stop treating Russia like our enemy and learn to work with them on areas of overlapping interest.
