Former GOP Rep. Lou Barletta announces bid for Pennsylvania governor

Former Republican Rep. Lou Barletta will be running to be Pennsylvania’s next governor.

Barletta, 65, announced his candidacy for the 2022 gubernatorial elections on social media Monday morning.

He served as mayor of the town of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, from 2000 to 2010 and then spent four terms in the House of Representatives before he lost a Senate bid in 2020, despite obtaining former President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

In his announcement video, Barletta rebuked Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, for his handling of the coronavirus. Wolf is not eligible to run for reelection again due to a two-term limit.

The solutions aren’t complicated. More than anything, we need someone to fight for you. So, let’s do it. Let’s take back Pennsylvania, together. pic.twitter.com/EPzUdTGomu

“The Pennsylvania we all grew up with, the one we all knew just a few years ago, is slipping away from us. Our way of life changed dramatically during the pandemic," Barletta said. "Look, everyone’s did. But here in Pennsylvania, it was made so much worse by politicians, politicians who weren’t just looking to stop a virus, but politicians hell-bent on trying to change who we are and how we live.”

I personally know Lou. He is the real deal. He has really become polished in the last several years, although the Lou I know is a regular guy at a dive bar in Hazelton. He still has those roots and that is exactly what PA needs. He was one of the very first to endorse Trump. He started kicking illegal immigrant ass in Hazelton years before it was fashionable. Lou is a national populist with hard core fiscal conservative roots.

It will be an effort for him to win. I only hope he let's people get to really know him.

He thinks there was a lot of fraud. He’s a Trump fan from what I heard.

I saw him on a show recently. I want to say War Room but am not sure. I really liked him. Hope he can pull it off.

Yeah, he was on War Room. I think Steve Bannon will support Lou. I am kind of getting the feeling that Bannon has a way with wielding influence and he is becoming a dominate force. I have not idea how widely watched he is. He has replace Rush for me.

“I have not idea how widely watched he is.”

I think Bannon’s audience is huge here in the U.S. — also in Japan and China.

Just this morning he interviewed that author — O’Donnell, I think — who wrote a book about the Revolutionary War. It was in the 200s on the best sellers list at 10 a.m. By 5 p.m. it was #7, I think. (I think I’m recalling this correctly.)

“He’s a Trump fan from what I heard.”

He spoke at at least one of Trump’s rallies — possibly more.

Can he win?

I don't know. It depends if he can get his message out and if we can ever have a fair election in PA again.

I think he has more influence than many realize. What I like about him is he’s a straight shooter. No fluff.
