Paris (AFP) - All future fossil fuel projects must be scrapped if the world is to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and to stand any chance of limiting warming to 1.5C, the International Energy Agency said Tuesday.
In a special report designed to inform negotiators at the crucial COP26 climate summit in Glasgow in November, the IEA predicted a "sharp decline in fossil fuel demand" in the next three decades as well as a 2040 deadline for the global energy sector to achieve carbon neutrality.
Built using its industry network and energy modelling tools, the IEA's roadmap lays out more than 400 milestones on the path to net-zero by mid-century.
These include "no new oil and gas fields approved for development" beyond projects that are already committed as of 2021.
The roadmap also said that sales of new internal combustion engine passenger cars would have to end in 2035 and energy efficiency would need to improve four percent annually this decade -- around three times faster than the current trajectory.

Laughable. These Woke morons continue to give the farm away to China and Russia. Anyone checked Hunter’s investments in oil and gas as it heads to $200/barrel.
What a load of nonsense.
Why on earth should the earth reach zero net carbon emissions at a h time, leg alone by some arbitrary l, plucked from the air 2050?
There are probably millions of planets out there that humans can live on, albeit we have ways to to develop technologies to get there.
Oil is not getting to $200 any time soon. However, if by some remote chance it gets to $200, Texas will be laughing all the way to the bank on money they have siphoned from California and New York.
How big is the IEA’s army? China can muster up an army of 100M men without even blinking. What can the IEA do, since China isn’t playing ball and are, BY FAR, the biggest carbon emitter on the planet?

Yeh for sure. When China and India stop using fossil fuels, especially coal, then maybe we should consider it. Till then, naw….
“Oil is not getting to $200 any time soon.”
Oil will EASILY reach $200, IF:
1) The Democrats want $200 oil.
2) The Democrats have the votes* for $200 oil.
*and we can help them there by sitting out elections or voting 3rd party, you know, to ‘teach the GOP a lesson’.
And by the way, the $10 gasoline in Norway equates to roughly $350 oil (even though they are a huge exporter of oil), because they HAVE THE VOTES to get it to that price and maintain that price.
Australian fuel prices are twice what they are in the United States, because Australian voted for them to be that way...

Glasgow, November...
Not exactly t-shirt weather there in November, how many well heated, chartered private planes did they have to find parking for this time?
Are any of these multimillionaire climate gurus driving electric cars? How many have ocean front mansions like obama and gore both have? How many of them live the way they expect us to live?
Just guessing here, but I’d bet my next [small] paycheck they all rise everywhere in chaufferred suvs, live in mansions where they pay 5 times the electric bills we pay, jet set around the world at will like lurch kerry in their own private planes, while they demand we get around in electric cars, or better yet, bicycles.
I get so sick of these frauds...
I’m disgustipated...
We need more CO2, not less. As a general rule; always do the opposite of what the liberals want and you will be right.
The woke generation didn’t handle the Colonial pipeline outage as if they are ready to do without so called “fossil fuels” - did they?
If they were serious they would give up their own smartphones, computers, TVs, house heaters and air conditioners, cars, air travel,
and all other products (including food) manufactured, harvested, processed and transported with the aid of any petroleum powered machinery.
The price of oil is not determined by any one country. You need to think of China, which currently produces more cars than America and has a population of over 1.4 billion. Then think of India with another 1.3 billion humans. We haven't even mentioned Europe who's population is twice that of the US and produces vastly more cars than the US.
I think the IEA is full of used food.
Very few of us actually buy crude oil and so the price of it is basically transparent when it’s low - but Norway still pays $10/gallon for gasoline...that’s where it affects us.
In other words, market forces don’t matter much when the gas tax is something like $8/gallon and give the Democrats enough power, and that WILL be the level of the tax.
Well they sure produce plenty of flatulence. Chuckle.
Whatever, semantics. I’ve been following oil prices for DECADES, so yea, we don’t control the world price - I get that. But the Democrats can ALSO tax crude oil, if they want, and that tax can be $150/barrel, IF THEY WANT IT, and if we give them the power to do so (you know, by ‘teaching the GOP a lesson’).
If they impose that tax on US users of crude, then what is the difference between $200 oil in the free market or $200 oil after taxes, as far as Americans are concerned?
When or if, the times comes to save humanity by migrating to another planet, they aren’t going to take billions of people.
Maybe this is how they think they can depopulate the planet ???
