Former President Donald Trump on Thursday appeared to distance himself from his superstar celebrity status in the Republican Party, suggesting that the GOP should pursue pro-American policies rather than build a platform around Trump himself.
The former president made the remarks during a lengthy interview with Rita Cosby on New York's WABC Radio on Thursday night. Asked by Cosby whether or not the rising status of Trump-friendly U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik means that the GOP is the "Republican Party of Trump," Trump demurred.
"Well, look, I'm not looking to have it be the party of Trump, I'm looking to have a great country," he said. "I'm looking to have a country that is run by people that know what they're doing."
"And we had it going, and then they had a fraudulent election," he added, alluding to claims that the 2020 election involved significant levels of voter fraud and illegal voting.
The president during the interview criticized the ongoing performance of current President Joe Biden; though he declined to give a specific "grade" to Biden's presidency thus far, he criticized the president's handling of various crises including those in Israel and at the southern U.S. border.
"[N]obody can be happy with what's happening at our border," he said. "I don't care whether you're liberal or whether you're conservative, whether you're Democrat, Republican, nobody can be happy. I don't believe that. This is what they want. And now they've lost control."

Trump, with very little help and seemingly with ease had peace in the middle East in sight and manufactures being forced to make tough decisions about bringing plants back to United States which was resulting in higher wages. The speed in which he did what he did against all the adversity, should be a lesson to every citizen in the country. The world is in the state it’s in because that what the leaders want.
MTG is not running Congress, but should be.
That video is very telling about her superior intellect compared to the ‘Rats and Lizards of the GOP.
The Republicans were valueless because their motto had become, “Vote for us we are just as good as the Democrats”.
Since the major political parties could no longer claim my allegiance, the only principle left to me was the value I placed on the oath I took as a Navy officer to support and defend the Constitution. Here was a unique statement of the sovereignty and worth of the individual which would be revolutionary forever.
Trump said he was at least willing to commit to appointing judges that would adhere to my oath. Now no political commitment should ever be considered sacrosanct, but I had no one to vote for. I chose to vote against the objectively demonstrated evil and that left Trump as the only viable option on the ballot.
I’ll vote for a great country, not a person. It would be nice if he wasn’t pretty much alone. We have certainly received an insight to just how bad it is.
I take him fully at his word here. If you watch the 1987 interview he did with Larry King, it isn’t hard to accept his word.

The border is the reason BOTH parties colluded to cheat him out.
It is the reason the GOP obstructed all of his efforts to build the wall.
