We need a more accurate term for this then other than the word “vaccine”, which is misleading. I’m open to suggestions.

The above represents a massively uninformed view of “vaccine.”
The purpose of a vaccine is to provoke, in a controlled fashion, immunity in the recipient. In order words, to make the recipient’s body develop immunity without first actually being exposed to the full virus or bacterium or other pathogen. Then, when immunity has developed, the same as if the recipient had been fully exposed to the infectious agent instead and survived, the body will automatically and effectively mount a defensive immune attack upon encountering the agent in the future, to keep an infection from taking place OR to lessen symptoms OR to shorten the duration of the illness, AND thus avoiding complications or damage from the infection including malaise, loss of work, residual organ damage, or death, AND also diminishing the spread of infection from the exposed person to others, since the viral or other agent will not be able to reproduce as well under the immune attack.
These “positive case” numbers also misrepresent the true situation. A positive test just means a number on a test is above some established threshold, and it can be truly positive or falsely positive, just as it could instead be truly negative or falsely negative. It has been argued elsewhere that the tests are stacked to give too many false positives, so that is an issue. But even if truly positive, all it means is that the virus was detected, that is, that it’s present on the person’s swabbed area (if the collection is done correctly), and this is EXPOSURE, or COLONIZATION.
Only when the virus invades the body and starts replicating is there an INFECTION. Only when the infection causes symptoms or damage (change in structure or function of the cells, organs, or body), or when the body reacts to the damage and causes further symptoms or disease, is there DISEASE. An infection that causes no or very mild symptoms and no damage is subclinical or mild, that is, not important. It’s even questionable how infectious such a person is, but that’s a different issue.
So a “positive” test ALONE means nothing. It’s the ones that go on to get significantly sick that is important, and that for this virus is still the same-—very very low rate of significant problems, except for certain vulnerable groups (elderly, COPD, obesity, diabetes, especially). And those are the same people who could die from any challenge to their systems, whether flu, heat, or common colds, so it’s still questionable whether most of the “COVID-19” deaths are truly from the virus or are made easier to occur by it. But again, a different issue.
This is a vaccine, just like for polio, hepatitis B, shingles, streptococcus pneumoniae, etc. No renaming of the process is needed. And it’s only “experimental” until the results of large numbers of vaccinations are known, then it’s established.
As people leave their hiding spots and rejoin mature adult society, of course more people can be exposed to the virus and can test positive for the exposure, and as more people are being tested, then more will be positives, falsely or truly, but that doesn’t mean there will be more sickness, or more deaths, than before. For those who do get sick, treatment is much better than a year ago, at least in the USA, and gets instituted a lot quicker, too, due to awareness.
The possibility of a reaction to any vaccination always exists, and not all vaccinations “take” in every person, so this is not a perfect situation. But further hysteria, due to incomplete understanding of what a vaccination is and what positive tests mean, is of no help to anyone.
