I’m curious what the compliance rate will be for people who got the first shot, who also get the 2nd shot. Presumably some will forego the 2nd shot as I understand it compliance for medications in general drops when people are asked to take 2 or more tablets per day. They take one, but often skip the other dose for whatever reasons.

Apparently the Red Cross said 20% of blood donations from unvaccinated people showed covid antibodies. If we presume that is a good sample size of the population at large we can extrapolate that 20% of unvaccinated people have a natural immunity.

With approaching 50% of people getting vaccine, and 20% of unvaccinated with natural immunity, we’re pretty darn close if not over the numbers suggested for herd immunity. We should see a steep drop off in new cases soon, followed by a steep drop off in hospitalizations and deaths.

Curious what may be causing some of these breakthrough cases e.g. New York Yankees have 8 breakthrough cases. Presumably they work/play/exercise in the same facilities thus a tight group. Maybe they got a bad batch, or maybe there is a strain floating out there that the vaccine doesn’t stop? Or maybe this is to be expected e.g. the vaccine doesn’t stop contagion just lessens the severity.

“we’re pretty darn close if not over the numbers suggested for herd immunity”

The dropping numbers of cases and hospitalizations seem to indicate that it is already happening. We have been on this latest downslope about a month now - it is looking strong.

There has been no big effect so far of folks skipping their second shots - only a pretty small margin.

A week old, but the trend has continued.

But there will be a good bit of overlap between the two groups. There is no restrictions on donating blood if you have received American authorized COVID-19 vaccination.
