It's my understanding that in this country at least Type II is more common than Type I. IIRC Type I always requires insulin while Type II sometimes requires it but can sometimes be managed without it. And I'm 99% certain that in this country at least a greater (far greater?) percentage of minorities have Type I and/or Type II than do whites.

Lastly,it's my understanding that Type II is often associated with being overweight.
