Biden's Energy Secretary Just Admitted a Key Fact About Pipelines

Speaking to reporters at the White House Tuesday afternoon, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm admitted that pipelines are the safest way to transport fuel. Her comments come as 17 states face a major gas shortage due to a cyberattack on the Colonial Pipeline system and four months after President Joe Biden stopped construction on the Keystone XL pipeline.

"Can you tell us what is the feasibility of using rail cars to transport fuel into the affected areas? I know that's being looked at," a reporter asked.

"The DOT [Department of Transportation] is looking at that, and so we'll have to wait until their analysis is done. There are not easy solutions because there may or may not be the right rail cars, there may not or may not be the deep-water ports available for the Jones Act to be able to respond," Granholm responded. "So this particular area of the country there, this is why we have doubled down on ensuring that there's an ability to truck oil in, gas in. But it's, the pipe is the best way to go. And so that's why, hopefully, this company, Colonial, will, in fact, be able to restore operations by the end of the week as they have said."

I think your analysis is correct about what it is really like. I think panic buying is the the answer though to why it ran out so much at gas stations. Even if everything is working smoothly, panic buying can still disrupt normal availability.

We really are getting a preview of the new socialist America. From gasoline waiting for people to people waiting for gasoline in one hundred short days. Praise Dear Leader!

Tank farms, at least the ones connected to Colonial ppl do not have a month capacity. It being a finished product ppl it has only enough capacity to supply the truck loading racks while another grade is sent though the ppl. Days perhaps a week, depending on which grade/product we are talking about.

Finished product tanks are not sized and grouped like crude oil tank farms. Compare the size of tank farms in Cushing to those of a finished product tank farm, like comparing a bucket to a swimming pool.

Running or starting up the ppl will happen under the approval of the DoE and other alphabet agencies. Colonial will not be able to start up until they get the been light from the feds.

When was the last time you heard of the feeds letting a situation go to waste?

"May not be the right rail cars?!"

To be fair, the infrastructure to offload product at tank farms by rail or boat has deteriorated or does not exist. Likewise, the human capital needed to manually operate the pipeline has deterioted or no longer exists. Still the situation is so ludicrous it easily gives birth to thoughts of conspiracy.

Well the most obvious issue is that people began hording in anticipation of troubles. That said, it does go beyond that, as even airlines are apparently experiencing troubles.

I would note however, that there was word of anticipated shortages prior to this pipeline shutdown.

it also tells you a lot about their not wanting the keystone pipeline

If you dug into the arguments closely, you’d find that the fundamental argument was that the pipeline would allow more fuel to be available to the US economy and that fuel would be used. THAT was what they couldn’t tolerate.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm admitted that pipelines are the safest way to transport fuel.

Meaningless, since she is opposed to transporting oil and gas.
