Open carrying is for idiots. The last thing I want is for someone to know I’m armed.
> Open carrying is for idiots. <
I wouldn’t go that far. In some states concealed carry requires a permit, but open carry does not. (In my opinion, it should be the opposite.)
That's your choice.
Mostly I carry concealed, but sometimes I WANT to make a point, and when I do open carry, there will be at least two visible weapons, one will be a S & W 357 Magnum in a shoulder holster and another will be on my hip, maybe a 9 MM or whatever else I want to carry.
You have to know that open carry may make you the first target in the event of a planned event, but I'm pretty sure that open carriers know this.
I prefer concealed but calling open carry people idiots? Really?
“Open carrying is for idiots. The last thing I want is for someone to know I’m armed.”
I like the open carry idea. But there will be some idiots out there use it for intimidation. BLM in protest recently is opening carrying trying to intimidate people. In some cases that open carry has turn into pointing the weapon at people.
I prefer not to let people know I am carrying. There should be no requirement to have a concealed weapons permit, it does nothing for public safety.
Most criminals who carry concealed weapons don’t have a permit or care about having a permit.
Concealed carry is for idiots. The last thing I want to look like is an easy mark/soft target for criminals.
I’m not going to diss on open carry but I wouldn’t do it. It makes you an object of attention.
I open carry every day as well as many others here in the Basin. I guess we all have our reasons but I can only give mine. Texas gets damn hot during the summer making carrying a weapon concealed almost impossible unless it’s a very small pistol. I do have a couple of pocket pistols but with those there’s no guarantee you can clear it quick enough. Trying to get a pistol out of the front pocket with a pair of jeans on can get tricky. If it’s small enough to fit in the pocket, it’s small enough to move out of position. I’ve got a SIG 365 but it’s just to damn big for a pocket unless you’re wearing cargo shorts or pant’s and I wear neither. Some like to carry on the belt and just let the short cover it up. The chances of finding me without my shirt tail tucked in is next to impossible. The biggest reason I guess come from my military and law enforcement past. I don’t want anything in between me and my weapon. Trying to quickly clear a weapon from clothing can get you in trouble and it usually involves your off hand. The last thing I want is to tie up both hands trying to clear a weapon, that off hand is too important if we’re talking close quarters. Multiple video’s on youtube show folks struggling to clear their weapons from under t-shirts or any clothing covering the weapon.
In many cases it’s pretty easy to tell if a person is carrying concealed, it’s damn hard not to print a decent size weapon and close to impossible to conceal a full framed one. So I just carry openly and don’t take the risk. I know a lot of people will say carrying open is just begging to be the first one to get shot should a criminal decide to rob a facility you’re in. My experience in law enforcement argues just the opposite, criminals are invariable cowards by nature. So I’ll continue to carry openly and you can call me an idiot if you chose.
One thing I might add for those considering carrying openly is carry in a retention holster, I carry a SIG 226 in a leather thumb break.
“Open carrying is for idiots.”
Sometimes it’s the only option, you idiot.
L
This is getting tiresome.
If you don’t agree with someone else’s opinion then you just start the name calling because only your OPINION counts.
So here goes!
Only an ASSHOLE would do something like that.
You must be a lot of fun at social gathering.
I go out of my way to thank every person open carrying I see. We need more of it.
