More than 1,000 gas stations run out of fuel

CHAMBLEE, Ga. - More than 1,000 gas stations in the Southeast reported running out of fuel, primarily because of what analysts say is unwarranted panic-buying among drivers, as the shutdown of a major pipeline by a gang of hackers entered its fifth day Tuesday.

Government officials acted swiftly to waive safety and environmental rules to speed the delivery of fuel by truck, ship or rail to motorists and airports, even as they sought to assure the public that there was no cause for alarm.

(Do this instead) LowerMyBills NMLS#167283; 3306 The Colonial Pipeline, the biggest fuel pipeline in the U.S., delivering about 45% of what is consumed on the East Coast, was hit on Friday with a cyberattack by hackers who lock up computer systems and demand a ransom to release them. The attack raised concerns, once again, about the vulnerability of the nation’s critical infrastructure.

A large part of the pipeline resumed operations manually late Monday, and Colonial anticipates restarting most of its operations by the end of the week, U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said.

Motorists may still feel a crunch because it takes a few days to ramp up operations, but she said there is no reason to hoard gasoline.

"We know that we have gasoline; we just have to get it to the right places," she said.

S&P’s Oil Price Information Service put the number of gas stations encountering shortages at more than 1,000.

It’s a start. Biden wants all the stations to run out of gas.

“5 gallons in the dirt.”

That IS total kr@p.

I think it comes over time from water in the tank. I used to dislike plastic tanks, but seem to be coming around on that issue.

Those should be printed on stickers and placed on gas pumps.

Texas also didn’t winterize their NG delivery system. I’m seeing a theme.

If you don’t keep a hundred gallons you are not even a baby prepper. Stackem high, stackem deep. Fuel with stabilizer in it lasts 24 months rotate the cans every year. First in first out into the cars and trucks. Chinese 20L metal Jerry cans in bulk are ten bucks each they are and air tight and have zero plastics or rubber in contact with the fuel.

I live in Maryland but am in Ohio for work. It’s a two tank trip. My wife and I were just talking about what to do if I can’t make it.

I told her I was fixing to take a really long hike.

Worse comes to worse, I guess the company will be buying me some new camping gear because hotels will likely be full.

Fun, but illegal. Saves gas though. Welcome to 1973. The ‘crisis’ is just as real now as it was then.

“Sounds perfectly ‘WARRANTED’ to me - the supply is cut off, so stock up to have a chance of riding out the storm.”

What is warranted is to stock up ahead of time so in case something like this happens, and it will, one is already prepared.

I generally keep the tank at least 3/4 full when returning home and don’t let it drop below half when on a trip. I keep 2 5 gallon containers of gas in my storage building.
