Tech giants join call for funding U.S. chip production

Some of the world's biggest chip buyers, including Apple Inc (AAPL.O), Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) and Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google, are joining top chip-makers such as Intel Corp (INTC.O) to create a new lobbying group to press for government chip manufacturing subsidies.

Terrible idea. If national security requires they be made here, mandate it. But there is no reason for the customers not to pay the cost.

Notice they want chip subsidies, rather than a tariff on Chinese chips, which would provide a similar advantage to domestic makers.

Because Apple, Microsoft & Google are flat broke. This is nothing more than the tech industry’s friendly reminder to Congress that mid-term elections are 18 months out and they are going to need campaign funds.

Rumblings of war with China and the loss of Taiwan....

That is what this smells of....

Most of our microchiops are made in:

China, Taiwan, south Korea, Thailand, and Japan...

If China invades Taiwan.... CHIP prices will SKYROCKET!

If you Fat Cats aren’t willing to fund the production necessary to keep your empires afloat then there is NO REASON the taxpayers should fund it.

These processes are so automated nowadays that the place that gets the work is not the one with the lowest wages. It’s the one with the lowest taxes.

Microsoft currently has the largest cash pile at $136.6 billion as of last quarter, according to estimates from FactSet. Berkshire Hathaway, Alphabet and Apple occupy the other top spots, with $128.2 billion, $121.2 billion, and $100.6 billion, respectively.

Facebook, Amazon, Ford, Oracle, Cisco and Bristol-Myers round out the rest of the top 10 list. These figures include the company’s cash balance as well as its short-term investments such as bonds.
