The growth of small businesses in the U.S. was held back in April because small businesses could not find enough workers, the National Federation of Independent Businesss said Tuesday.
“Small business owners are seeing a growth in sales but are stunted by not having enough workers,” said NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg. “Finding qualified employees remains the biggest challenge for small businesses and is slowing economic growth. Owners are raising compensation, offering bonuses and benefits to attract the right employees.”

Of course not, workers are getting as much or more collecting unemployment. Why work?
I hear Central America is over-brimming with workers.
Small business vote Republican. Large ones are woke. Put them out of business and guess who wins?
That’s the intent, force businesses to pay a higher minimum wage on their own so it can be taxed.
Cancel unemployment
Take their free food programs away and there will be lots of workers.
Wait. Psaki said there was no data to support this. All these small business owners must be stupid.....
When this started a year ago, people were collecting $900 a week from Uncle Sugar. That is equivalent to an $80,000 a year Job after Taxes!!. It has been Lowered to $600 a week which is equivalent to a $45,000 salary after taxes.
Why would Anyone want to go back to work at any Small Business not paying $25 an hour??
While Costco is not a small business, they do manage to find workers and pay $16.00 an hour to start.
Wonder how many are refusing to go back muzzled...
I know at least 2 owners here in L.A. who have that same problem. They already jacked up the salary to $15/hr and no takers the past 2 months.
Here in Reno it is somewhat bad. I was in Pittsburg last week mostly in Beaver county and they are desperate for workers there. It seems half the population sleeps all day, and many restaurants and other small businesses are just gone. It will be a level 11 disastrophe when the free money runs out and there is a massive population of layabouts with no businesses left to employ them
Start paying cash on the side
I agree. Why would anyone want to work in a mask for 8 hours a day? If they are getting $ to stay home with no mask, then why go back at this point. Unmask the employees and give them the freedom of choice.
The unemployment surpasses what many earn so no incentive to work.
The assumption of small business is that people would rather stay on unemployment than work. But maybe the reason is that people would rather stay on unemployment than work for their company? If they're offering minimum wage, less than full time hours, and no benefits then maybe that's the reason and not unemployment?
And how many of these small businesses are restaurant or retail? Two industries that had problems even before the pandemic? Why would people be chomping at the bits to get back to that kind of environment?
About half of us were laid off April, just the ‘new guys’ that had been there for a few years. I was told I could come back in 6 months. Over a year later I was asked if I wanted to come back, but now as a temp worker, no benefits. To add to this tempting offer there’s a commute involved that costs several hundred dollars per month to a job in Seattle where they are still rioting almost nightly.
So yeah, libtard hell hole urban areas are probably hard up for workers. Out in my area the only help wanted sign is the same one that was up long before anyone ever heard of Covid, at Lowes. And I’m thinking management forgot it was out there.
Oh. And no I don’t make more on unemployment.
The replacement are flooding over the border now. So when does the entire system collapse?
Not anymore they are at, across or coming to the border.
