How are people out of work (that want to work)? I have never, ever had a problem finding a job.

I don’t understand it either. There is always something out there for someone that truly wants to work. Most people are too narrowly focused on what they will do it seems. A couple of times I took jobs that were “beneath” me, but once on the inside, my value was quickly appreciated and I quickly moved into the types of roles I wanted.
Well maybe I'm wired differently because I don't consider myself to be "in a field."
With regard to work, I'm open to just about anything. And with a little OJT, I can pretty much do anything. I'm a quick learner who usually does not make the same mistake twice.
In my younger days, I delivered papers, washed dishes, bagged groceries, loaded and unloaded luggage at the airport, fixed copier machines. These days, I'm in what would be considered upper management but as I begin to look at my later years, I will likely step down to less stressful and demaning jobs (but will do them well). At some point, I'm going to want to get out of the rat race.
Even in "retirement", and I'm relatively assured of having a decent income for life, I will likely turn to lower skill jobs that keep me active and engaged with people. Things I always considered would be fun to do but previously could not have those jobs as I would not be able to support a household with the income from it.
For instance, being a limo driver. I love to drive and meet new people. So I can see myself driving kids to their proms, to their weddings, and other special occasions. Then I can get some book reading done while waiting. Not because I'll need the money but because I will like to be out and about in my retirement.
Or I could be a UPS or Amazon delivery driver. That will get me some exercise for sure and still involves a lot of driving.
Maybe a professional dog walker. I love dogs and live in a over-55 neighborhood where many consider it a hassle to take their dogs out for their daily walks.
Really, there are a ton of things I'd like to do in retirement that would be fun to do.

Yep bad economic news means big Wall Street Rallye. The thought being another round of sit on your ass money, extend unemployment benefits out to two years. It’s SICK.
That 74% stat doesn’t include a huge number of directly adjacent and relevant jobs like financial analysis, corporate managers, etc. STEM degrees still have some of the highest salaries in the US and the vast majority do go into relevant fields. I got an economics degree but now a finance executive as an example that wouldn’t be counted by your methodology on a degree in “my field.” The underemployment in the US has not been among college degreed, but non high school and high school because unemployment/low income benefits and/or SSDI is close to the same income they can make at Walmart or MCDs. The job market for professionals of all types with college degrees is quite strong at the moment and has been for decades, which is why 90% of real wage growth since 1995 has gone to the top 25% of earners.

If sane people were in positions of authority, perhaps. Don’t forget the motto of leftardation: Worse is better. They want as much unemployment as they can produce.
