Poll: 72% of Americans Say Immigrants Come to the United States for Jobs and to Improve Their Lives
CATO ^ | 04 27 2021 | Emily Ekins and David Kemp

The Cato Institute 2021 Immigration and Identity National Survey, a new national survey of 2,600 U.S. adults, finds that nearly three‐fourths (72%) of Americans believe immigrants come to the United States to “find jobs and improve their lives” while 27% think immigrants come to obtain government services and welfare.

Support for More Immigration Is on the Rise

Support for more immigration has tripled from the mid‐1990s when about 10% of the public supported more immigration and two‐thirds wanted less. Today 29% of Americans want more, 38% want to maintain current levels, and 33% want less.

Democrats’ views largely account for this shift. Starting around 2008–2010, Democratic support for more immigration rose from about 20% to 47% today.

70% of Democrats Say Racist Beliefs Drive Desire for Less Immigration

Seventy percent (70%) of Democrats say racist beliefs drive the desire for less immigration. In contrast 57% of all Americans, as well as 60% of independents and 88% of Republicans say a sincere interest in controlling the country’s borders is the reason.

91% of Americans Welcome Immigration to the U.S., 9% Want to Shut Down the Border

OF COURSE they come here for jobs and to improve their lives. People don’t generally go places to make their lives worse. That has nothing to do with whether our current immigration policy is a good idea.

From Cato:

E Pluribus Unum: Findings from the Cato Institute 2021 Immigration and Identity National Survey

The devil is in the details (data).

I have respect for CATO, but am very skeptical about YouGov. I do not trust Gallup polls a all.

not all the idiots are in DC...

[Gov.]Scott calls on U.S. State Department to send more refugees to Vermont

Gov. Phil Scott is calling on the federal government to resettle more refugees in Vermont, describing it as integral to his plans to grow the state’s economy and workforce.

Scott wrote to the U.S. Department of State on Monday, March 15, urging the federal government to triple the number of refugees it hopes to send Vermont next year, according to a letter obtained by VTDigger. This federal fiscal year, which ends in September, the state was slated to receive 100 refugees, though it’s not currently on pace to reach that goal.

The Republican governor wrote that he views refugee resettlement as essential to addressing the state’s demographic challenges.

“Refugees are an integral part of our efforts to grow Vermont’s economy, which include a workforce development strategy to attract new workers and meet the demographic challenges faced by a declining population,” Scott wrote.

Since the establishment of the Federal Refugee Resettlement Program four decades ago, more than 8,000 participants have moved to Vermont, according to the governor. The resettlement rate, however, has slowed in recent years.

Of the 100 refugees the state had hoped to welcome by the end of September, only 26 have arrived so far. Scott said in his letter that Vermont has the ability to accommodate many more.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jason Maulucci, Scott’s press secretary, said in a statement Thursday that expanding Vermont’s refugee program could benefit the state in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

That is true of all the “immigrants” with whom I am acquainted (who may be legal or not); they are typically better workers than many of our own.

I’m not anti immigration, I am against immigration being used as a political tool to talk-over a country and destroy it.

That is the #ComDem agenda.

For one, the poll is garbage because it combines looking for jobs and a better life in one statement. Everyone wants a better life, so that part is meaningless to the debate, but it probably swayed many of the respondents to select that answer.

But also, I think this the situation is even worse in a way than you describe because there are many illegals that actually are doing both. Working under the table to get money and milking as many benefits as they can. So yeah, they might have a job in the technical sense, but it’s just taking more stuff away from real Americans.

Are those 72% willing to pay the freight?

Doesn't matter, yet another B.S. poll.

If I break into Pelosi's place(with her $ecurity that would no doubt be a..."job") and steal her wealth to "improve" MY life...is that OK "72%"?

Illegal Alien /= Immigrant.

They’re two very separate things.

I want to see the poll ask if everyday Americans think Illegal Aliens are a-ok.

then they must implement again the guest worker program, that program that the Democrats ended because they took jobs from US citizens..... a world with too many ironies.
