A U.S. House seat left vacant because of the death of Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings likely will not be filled until early next year.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that qualifying for a special election in Southeast Florida’s Congressional District 20 will be held in September, with a primary election on Nov. 2 and a general election on Jan. 11.

They want to rubber stamp a placeholder quickly, whereas Ron wants there to be COMPETITION.
The law allows him a timeline...end of discussion. I’d be looking at the health of various Florida House members, and start to worry that one or two more of them might pass...and their replacement timeline goes to the same deal.
Remember Florida gained one Congressional Seat and Republicans have solid control of the State House and Senate, so it’s time to draw up the new congressional seat so that we end up with one less Democrat and two new Republicans......anything less would be disappointing..
What a shame.
Alcee Hastings won in 2020 with 78% of the vote. Democrats will win the special election. Delaying that election is a political tactic, and it’s probably a good thing for America.
Since the census allows states to re-district, and FL will gain an additional congress critter, gerrymander hasting's area out of existence, but be careful you are not just spreading the corruption.

It would be inconvenient for democRAT race and poverty pimps in D.C. if the 80 year old clown in district 24, Frederica Wilson, went on to join Alcee or had to step down due to illness. She's their suitable sub for Auntifa Maxine.

The Constitution only says that when House vacancies occur that the governor of a state “shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies”. It doesn’t specify when.
Love your thinking and analysis on this one. Wouldn’t it be grand to “steal” the House of Representatives away from Nanzi Piglosi?

She has announced her desire to replace Frederica. Let’s see if the Republican national party supports her.
Probably better to take the opposite approach. Absolutely stuff one district with Democrats....so as to make it much easier for Republicans in surrounding districts. Trade one seat for several.

Living up in the panhandle I'm not familiar with the current political landscape down south. My concern is that this 'down-right fool' is what smart sounds like to stupid people and therefore without redistricting she'll have the competitive advantage with those broward/dade voters she 'represents.'

I think was gerrymandered INTO existence. I always tell people here in Houston frustrated with Sheila Jackson Lee: the Texas legislature gave her a safe district so that we get another Republican district.
Unfortunately, the Democrats won that extra Republican district, TX-7, in 2018 and narrowly held onto it in 2020. We’ll see what happens after redistricting.
