Unfortunately this is Beyond Stupid. I wonder if any of these lawmaker people asked themselves where the nearest Hydrogen Fuel station was ?
Hint, it is in another Country.

They are giving you the tax deduction to account for your travel time.
It passes (leaks) through most anything.
We have a perfectly good, mature, geographically dispersed, highly optimized system to get oil out of the ground, refine it, make gasoline (and many other byproducts), deliver it to countless “gasoline stations” all over the country where you can safely put incredible amounts of potential chemical energy in your tank in a few minutes. Then you burn it in highly optimized, very clean, and very efficient internal combustion engines to power your car.
There is NO REASON on God’s Green Earth to throw all that away. All of that was created by millions of brilliant minds operating independently driven by the free market and the profit motive.
There is NO WAY “industrial policy” by pointy-headed liberals will ever come up with anything better. Just look at the Soviet “Five Year Plans” for an example of how well central planning works.
No, hydrogen vehicles will never made it. Simple physics.
Basic problem - there is no free hydrogen on Earth. All hydrogen on Earth is tied up in molecules like water or natural gas. To split hydrogen from water you need more electrical energy than the hydrogen will eventually deliver (2nd law of thermodynamics!).
To get the Hydrogen from hydro carbonates, you will also loose badly on energy budget, as you get more energy by just burning the whole hydro carbonate, not by stripping hydrogen from the hydro carbonate. Again, there is no way around the 2nd law!
If we could somehow steal hydrogen from the Sun, where there is a lot of it in free form, now you are talking effective power source.
Guess when that will happened?
Hydrogen. Takes more power to isolate, capture, transport, and store then it produces recting back in to dihydrogen monoxide.
I did my thesis on hydrogen buses in 1992 at Berkeley
BEYOND STUPID!!! What could go wrong?? Democrats RUIN EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH!
